Win rate here is first-place finishes as a share of all 34 recorded contest results. It is published only where a career holds at least five, because below that a single placing moves the figure by twenty points or more.

Known for
The early 1950s are the peak. He won the Mr Eastern America outright in 1951 and 1952 and again in 1954, the Junior Mr America in 1951, and the Most Muscular award at the Mr America in both 1953 and 1954. He was third at the Mr America itself in 1951 and 1952.
Then a decade later he reappears as a professional: the tall class at the professional Universe in 1966, runner-up there in 1965 and 1975, and the masters title at the professional Mr America in 1977 at 53.
Early career
Born in 1924, his first recorded win is the tall class at the 1949 Mr New York Metropolitan. The last is a masters title twenty-eight years later.
A span that long normally means two competitors have been merged into one row. This one does not: the record divides cleanly into an amateur run from 1949 to 1954 and a professional and masters run from 1965 to 1977, which is exactly the shape a long career takes.

Where these results come from. Each contest in the table was recorded from a named source, and for George Paine that source is MuscleMemory. Open any contest above and that page names its own source and links to it where the source is still reachable. That archive no longer answers at the addresses we hold, so it is credited by name here and not offered as a link.

Legacy
Paine competed against the generation that built American bodybuilding and was still on stage when the Olympia era began. Very few records in this database touch both.
Sources
Competition placings on this page come from our own contest database and cover 1949 to 1978.
Contests of this era awarded a height or weight CLASS title and then a separate OVERALL title, and several also gave a Most Muscular award. In the table below, a class win and an overall placing at the same contest are both correct and are not a contradiction, and a Most Muscular row is an award given at that contest rather than a win of it.
Most-met rivals
Compare any two athletes →In 6 meetings, George Paine finished ahead of Irvin Koszewski (Zabo) 4 times to 2.
Opponents are ranked by how often they shared a stage and how big the stage was, not by reputation. A meeting is one contest where both competed in the same division and both were placed.
