The Olympia record is the record. He finished second to Larry Scott in 1965 and 1966, the contest's first two editions, and third behind Sergio Oliva in 1967. Three appearances, three podiums, at the very beginning of the contest's history.
Before that he won the Most Muscular award at the Mr America in 1962 and 1963, the Universe tall class in 1963 and the Mr America tall class in 1964.
Early career
His record opens in 1960 and he was competing at national level as a teenager, taking second at the Teen Mr America and the Mr America in 1963.
He won the professional Mr America in 1967 and 1968 and the Mr USA tall class in 1971. He competed across the AAU, IFBB and WBBG, three separate federations.

Somebody had to finish second at the first Mr. Olympia and Poole did it twice. He is one of the very few competitors whose record touches the contest's creation, and there is almost nothing written about him.
