Kevin English won the Olympia's under-202 class three years running, in 2009, 2010 and 2011, and the New York Pro four times. At 5 feet 4 inches he was one of the densest competitors the light divisions have had.

Win rate here is first-place finishes as a share of all 19 recorded contest results. It is published only where a career holds at least five, because below that a single placing moves the figure by twenty points or more.

Data updated

Known for

The Olympia record in the capped division reads second in 2008, then first, first and first. Three consecutive titles in a class that was still called the 202 Showdown when he started winning it and the 212 by the time he stopped.

The New York Pro was his other stronghold. He won it in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2012, which no other competitor in the division has matched.

Early career

His recorded career opens in 1996. He won three amateur titles in 1998 alone, the Atlantic States Championships, the Junior Nationals and the Nationals, and then did not appear again in our record until 2008.

That comeback year produced a New York Pro win and second place at the Olympia. The three titles followed immediately. He placed third in 2013 and competed for the last time in 2015.

How Kevin English measures up

Fat-free mass index turns the height and weight on this profile into one number for how much muscle a frame carries, so a shorter competitor is not flattered by a bodyweight comparison. The normalised figure adjusts it again to a standard height, which is the version worth ranking. Both assume the 6% body fat a competitor steps on stage at, because that is the only condition the recorded weight was taken in.

The closest Olympia champion on that measure is Phil Heath, at 33.7.

What this rank is not. This database holds a height and a weight for just 463 athletes, and they are overwhelmingly the ones somebody bothered to measure: 73 of them hold an Olympia title. Almost every competitor on record carries no measurement at all. The pool also mixes every division and era together, from the lightweight women's classes to the open heavyweights, so it ranks size and nothing else. It says where Kevin English sits among the athletes we hold measurements for, not among competitors.

Where these results come from. Each contest in the table was recorded from a named source, and for Kevin English those sources are MuscleMemory and NPC Contests. Open any contest above and that page names its own source and links to it where the source is still reachable. MuscleMemory is the exception: the archive we recorded those older shows from no longer answers at the addresses we hold, so it is credited by name and not offered as a link.

Legacy

The 212 division exists because competitors like English proved a capped class could be as competitive as the open one. Three Olympia titles and four New York Pros is the record that made the argument.

Sources

Competition placings on this page come from our own contest database and cover his record from 1996 to 2015.

His 2012 New York Pro win is recorded twice under two division labels and appears as two rows below. He also has a 2008 Olympia entry in the open class alongside the capped one; both are in the table.

In 8 meetings, Kevin English and David Henry are dead even, finishing ahead 4 times apiece.

Opponents are ranked by how often they shared a stage and how big the stage was, not by reputation. A meeting is one contest where both competed in the same division and both were placed.
