Elomaa's Olympia title came in 1981, when women's bodybuilding barely had a settled definition of what it was judging. She won the European Amateur Championships heavyweight class and the World Games in the same year, which is as complete a season as the sport offered at the time.
Her recorded stage weight, 53 kilograms at 165 centimetres, says more about that era than any description can. The division she won looks nothing like the one that carries the same name now.
Early career
Her entire competitive record in our database runs from 1981 to 1983: the Olympia title in 1981, third in 1982, fifth in 1983. Three years, and then she stopped.
What she did afterwards is the unusual part. She built a career as a singer in Finland, and was later elected to the Finnish parliament, which makes her one of very few Olympia champions in any division to hold national office.

Legacy
Elomaa is one of the earliest Ms. Olympia champions and among the least discussed, partly because she left the sport almost immediately and partly because the era she won in has been written about mainly through its American competitors.
The three-year record is not a short career that fizzled. It is a complete one: she entered, she won the biggest title available, and she went and did something else.
