Charles Glass Reveals Common Drag Curl Mistake and How to Fix It for Better Biceps Growth

Glass shared his solution to a common drag curl mistake and explained how to perform the exercise to grow the biceps.

The drag curl is a classic arm-building move that bodybuilders have sworn by for years. In a recent Instagram post shared on Nov. 25, 2025, “The Godfather of Bodybuilding” Charles Glass revealed a common drag curl mistake and how to fix it for better biceps growth. 

“Are you doing drag curls? Give this bicep movement a try and watch them grow!”

Charles Glass is an elite-level trainer with decades of experience. Boasting an engineering and gymnastics background, his grasp of anatomy and body mechanics helps him structure training for clients. From regular gym-goers to celebrities, Glass’s approach is backed up by real-life experience.

Additionally, Glass has helped shape an era of bodybuilding legends, mainly from the 2000s, including Dexter Jackson, Chris Cormier, the late Shawn Rhoden, and Dennis James. His influence on top talent hasn’t dropped off today. Before the 2025 Mr. Olympia, he helped former Ms. Bikini Olympia Lauralie Chapados prepare for her title defense. 

Charles Glass Shares Drag Curl Fix for Better Biceps Growth 

In the video, Glass noted that the goal is to maximize the contraction of the biceps. A common mistake he said to avoid was rocking back and forth throughout repetitions. 

“We want more of the contraction on the biceps. So what we’re trying to do is focus mainly on the belly of the biceps. Because what happens is most people do this: they are rocking back and forth. But you’re not doing anything.”

He explained that pulling the elbows back is essential for quality drag curl reps. 

“When you do a good drag curl, you’re pulling up and into, pulling the elbows back, that’s all biceps. Look, you can see right there, all biceps work.” 

“See how you lock the shoulders down. Now, it’s all biceps. You hit the brachialis a little [as well],” Glass shared.

Aside from Glass, bodybuilding veteran Lee Priest has pointed out some common mistakes when growing the biceps. He also believes body momentum can affect progress. On top of that, Priest warned that using a heavier weight can backfire. Good form won’t just prevent injuries; it can keep the front delts from receiving unnecessary work, he explained. 

Drag curls are a unique weapon for anyone’s arm-building arsenal. They look easy, but the burn accumulates quickly, making it an effective option for growth. Glass stands by this movement and emphasizes that with proper form, it earns its keep.
