Chest Press Machine
Glass offered setup tips on the chest press machine, revealing that how you lie on the bench can affect the quality of contractions throughout the exercise.
“It allows you to get a deeper stretch plus the contractions are much greater when you push to the top. The heavier you go, the more you can feel that contraction,” says Glass. “Most of the time you’re sitting up in it. This time you get a lot more of the chest, right across the chest [when you don’t sit as high in the seat].”
Decline Chest Press Machine w/ incline
Using a bench on the decline and incline, Glass provided guidance on the next pressing movement.
Flat Barbell Bench Press
During the flat barbell bench press, Glass advises lifters to keep the bar right above the chest near the neckline for the best results.
“Now, you’re going to bring it right about to there [neckline] and push up,” says Glass. “Elbows ought to go out to the side.”
Incline Close Grip Dumbbell Press
Glass gave angle recommendations during sets of the incline close grip dumbbell press.
“At an angle, so drop it this way [toward your face]. Press the back toward my hand [placed above your head]. Take it down and press back,” said Glass. “Don’t press up but press back.
Pec Deck Fly Machine
Glass suggested ‘falling into’ reps on the pec deck fly machine before pushing forward.
Bar Dips
Glass finished the routine, offering tips for effective bar dips by manipulating the angle of the push during each repetition.
“Now what I want you to do is drop forward more, keep your chest down, and then push this way [hands downward] at an angle. Get more of that decline. Bend your knees. Pull your knees to your chest, now drop down.”
This wasn’t the first time Charles Glass has offered clutch tips for building a powerful chest. Out of every exercise under the sun, Glass favors the decline press most for the chest, adding that this ‘is the only exercise you need’ to develop the body part.
With decades of experience training individuals, Charles Glass brings a unique perspective to all of his workout demonstrations. The next time you’re hitting chest, give his ultimate workout guide a try and see if you get results in two weeks.
