French powerlifter Lya Bavoil is determined to beat her own records and did so this weekend with a 485lbs deadlift and 452lbs squat session. At only 26-years-old, Lya Bavoil is putting herself on the map as a serious contender for best in the world in the 63kg/139lbs class.
It almost seems as if every time she hits the gym, she also hits a new record, and at 26 she has many miles to go before she stops.
Today she posted her latest session, which included a 220kg/485lbs deadlift, and a 205kg/452lbs squat. She posted a video of her new personal record on Instagram and stated the following. Here is our translation:

As we previously reported, prior to today’s record-breaking post, Lya held a personal IPF record of a 193kg squat. Today’s post beats that by 12kgs and 26.4lbs, and would put her on the map if she performed this way in competition.
Her prior wins include a European Championship in 2019 when she deadlifted 3.5 times her own body weight with a 495lbs deadlift. Today’s lift was just 10lbs short of that accomplishment.
2020 has provided some challenges when it comes to powerlifting competitions. That didn’t stop her from competing against herself. Just after the pandemic lockdown shut down the world in March 2020, she held a Mock Meet in her own living room, calling it the Quarantine Mock Meet French Nationals.
That’s a true champion!
As her cat looked on, she crushed 440lbs/200kg squat, and 485lbs/22okg lbs deadlift.
And, after the lockdown challenges, she continued to perform well at the Silent Worker meet last month with 463lbs squat and 485lbs deadlift.
It is the same deadlift she crushed today, with her squat today just below her Silent Worker meet mark. With 485lbs deadlift being a consistent marker for her, it looks like she may be gearing to up those deadlift numbers in the near future.
We hope she is bringing these numbers, and more, to the competition circuit later this year. In an exclusive interview with Fitness Volt earlier this year, she said she is hoping to get to the Arnold Classic Europe in Seville, Spain, that will run from December 11 to December 13 this year.
