Even though he left the New York Pro without the ring and cash prize, the world took notice of Martin Ftizwater’s potential. In an Rx Muscle interview, Martin Fitzwater discussed his goal of making the first call-out at the 2024 Mr. Olympia. In addition, Chris Aceto and Victor Martinez recapped the event, offering their thoughts on the finals.

The 2024 New York Pro saw one of the most thrilling Men’s Open battles of the bodybuilding season. Frontrunners Nick Walker and Martin Fitzwater showcased next-level physiques. Walker made steady improvements to his shape and aesthetics whereas Fitzwater added a dramatic level of tissue to his frame.

Walker ultimately secured his second New York Pro title but not without a fight. He squeaked by Fitzwater by one point during prejudging and the finals to bag his Olympia qualification. With the show in the rearview, Aceto, Fitzwater, and Martinez recapped the action.

Martin Fitzwater Lays Out 2024 Mr. Olympia Goal, Chris Aceto Says It Wasn’t a ‘Slam Dunk’ for Nick Walker at New York Pro

Having already won gold at the Detroit Pro, Fitzwater’s spot on the Olympia stage was set in stone, but he wanted to test himself against Walker.

“I love bodybuilding. I want to get more fans. I want to get more time on stage. I also knew that I wasn’t my best at Detroit.

I knew we could bring this nastier, harder, grainier conditioning and that’s exactly what we did. I went back to work, kept pushing down, kept dieting. I’m almost the exact same weight as Detroit, but just let it marinate a little longer.”

Fitzwater revealed that he consumed 4,000 carbs over a three-day period for the show.

“Yeah, when you get saran wrapped you always look a little better. Again, just like we did for Detroit, over about a three-day period of time, it was about 4,000 carbs,” adds Fitzwater.

Above all else, Fitzwater’s goal for the 2024 Mr. Olympia is to make the first call-out.

“The goal is first call-out,” Martin Fitzwater says. “Getting compared with the big boys, that’s all that matters to me.”

Looking at the results of the contest, Chris Aceto thought Walker won because he had ‘enough’ conditioning to highlight his mass.

“I think what won it was that Nick was in good enough condition to highlight the mass that he had. Yes. He has to be better at the Olympia. Coming out of prejudging, I thought he had enough mass and enough condition to get by. It wasn’t like a slam dunk. I actually think yes he came back better tonight but I think Martin came back even more better.”

As for Fitzwater, Aceto praised him for making another huge leap in the Men’s Open.

“I said on the radio the other day that a lot of people have that one-year jump and he had two years in a row. He had this year and he had the previous year where he was really improved at the Texas Pro. He’s added a lot of mass and a lot of condition in maybe a 28-month period,” shares Aceto.

Victor Martinez thought Fitzwater ‘rattled’ Nick Walker on stage and expects big things in his future.

“You know what? It could have gone either way and nobody would have been disappointed. I got to say. I was very impressed with Martin here because at the end of the day, yes, Nick was the talk, everybody was expecting it but man, you really rattled him. You rattled him! Good structure, great shape, the posing, all of it man. There’s nothing else I can say than great presentation.”

After the hard-fought battle with Fitzwater, Nick Walker made a statement on the big victory. He underscored that when he says he’s going to do something, he honors his word, as was the case with his triumph over Fitzwater in Teaneck, New Jersey.

There’s no denying Martin Fitzwater’s potential, especially after he predicted that he would give Walker a run for his money. Fans look forward to seeing how Martin Fitzwater stacks up against talent on the Olympia stage this October.
