Despite no longer competing actively, Phil Heath is still being recognized for his bodybuilding contributions. On February 20, 2025, the 45th and 47th President of the United States Donald Trump honored Phil Heath at the White House in celebration of Black History Month.
Phil Heath was one of the most dominant Mr. Olympia champions to emerge in bodybuilding. He is tied in Olympia titles with bodybuilding legend Arnold Schwarzenegger. From 2011-2017 he held the crown, denying Open mainstays Kai Greene, Dennis Wolf, Branch Warren, and many others a shot at gold.
Heath’s 3D look, bubbly muscle volume, and stage presence were pivotal to his success on the bodybuilding stage. His last contest came in 2020, where he secured third place behind Brandon Curry, and former two-time titleholder Mamdouh ‘Big Ramy’ Elssbiay.
Having been inducted into the International Sports Hall of Fame, Heath is one of the most decorated bodybuilders to ever compete. He never officially retired from the sport but continues to receive impressive accolades since stepping away from the stage.
It’s not every day that the President of the United States of America recognizes athletes for their bodybuilding abilities. Regardless of your political affiliation, there’s no denying Phil Heath’s impact on the sport, nor his capacity to inspire countless individuals.

It should be noted that Phil Heath never officially retired from bodybuilding. In April 2023, Heath suggested that he would make a bodybuilding return if the price was right. He claimed that he would consider performing at the Mr. Olympia or Masters Olympia competitions if he were paid $1 million. He remains in spectacular shape and fans believe it’s possible he could still find success even against the best crop of active competitors.
Phil Heath is one of the most popular and competitive bodybuilders to emerge in the IFBB Pro League and with his White House honor from President Trump in 2025, his legacy and influence on the sport continues to grow.
