62-Year-Old Rich Gaspari Fires Off 50-Rep Smith Squat Set To Finish His Leg Day

Gaspari pushed beyond his limits during his latest leg day workout.

Bodybuilding veteran Rich Gaspari’s training intensity hasn’t dropped off since retiring from the sport. On Nov. 25, 2025, an injury-free Gaspari crushed a leg workout and fired off a 50-rep set of Smith machine squats as a finisher. 

Rich Gaspari was the first athlete to lay claim to the Arnold Classic title, a feat he accomplished back in 1989. Although he never won the Sandow trophy, he gave former eight-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney some of his toughest battles. 

He was known for his Saran Wrap conditioning, having pushed elite-level bodybuilders throughout his prime. Additionally, Gaspari pioneered striated glutes in competition, which has shaped the direction of the Men’s Open class since his time onstage.

Age catches up with all of us, but Gaspari’s dedication to training has boosted his longevity. He still sports impressive leg strength, a ripped six-pack, and trains with high intensity. Even while traveling the world, Gaspari doesn’t miss a training session.

Rich Gaspari Hits 50-Rep Finisher ‘Pump’ Set to Finish Off His Leg Workout 

In the post, Gaspari proved his strength hasn’t fallen off after firing off a 50-rep set of Smith machine squats following his leg workout, which consisted of leg presses, squats, and hack squats. 

“Having some fun showing these young athletes I still got it doing 50 reps at the end of our leg workout of doing Leg presses, hack squats and then doing 3 sets of squats of up to 275 for 15 reps eccentric then doing a 50 rep pump set.”

Though some might be critical of his form, Gaspari emphasized that he’s still training daily and is free of injuries. 

“Of course I’ll hear from the haters how they are not full squats. Screw off to the trolls and haters. Still pounding at 62 with no injuries and feeling great while I’m here in Japan on different time zones hitting the gym every day! Rich Gaspari shared.

Remaining fit year-round remains one of Gaspari’s highest priorities since stepping away from the stage. He recently unpacked his simple three-step system for staying in shape. For the best results, he stressed that the biggest drivers of change are eccentric-focused resistance training, a high-protein diet, and balanced supplementation. 

Whether he’s breaking down the latest shake-ups in the Men’s Open division or revealing his secret superset for a wider back, Gaspari’s grasp of bodybuilding is second to none. At 62 years old, he continues to flaunt impressive longevity.
