Rich Gaspari, now 62, isn’t showing signs of age-related muscle decline. On July 21, 2025, the inaugural Arnold Classic champion shared an Instagram post revealing his sharp ab definition.

Gaspari jumped into the sport at a young age and never looked back. Throughout his career, he brought a new level of muscle hardness that gave his rivals fits onstage. He came remarkably close to winning the Mr. Olympia title but had the misfortune of continually facing off against eight-time kingpin Lee Haney. Despite never earning the Sandow, Gaspari made history in the sport and is credited as the first athlete to pioneer striated glutes in competition.

Maintaining muscle volume and accelerating fat loss drive Gaspari’s day-to-day in retirement. Achieving both of these goals simultaneously is even more challenging, but Gaspari emphasizes that with proper nutrition and training, it’s more than possible.

Gaspari hasn’t forgotten the strategies that helped propel him to the top. During an old-school back and biceps workout, he offered a comprehensive guide on correcting physique imbalances and also outlined how he crafted his diuretic tea during the prime years of his career. Gaspari doesn’t always train alone, though. He recently joined fellow bodybuilding great Lee Labrada for a tough back and shoulder workout

Beyond his training endeavors, Gaspari is committed to the sport’s growth, especially the Men’s Open class. He regularly assesses the top talents headed to the Mr. Olympia. In Gaspari’s opinion, he sees Samson Dauda as the favorite heading into the 2025 Mr. Olympia. Meanwhile, he predicted Derek Lunsford to nail down a top-three position and Nick Walker to secure a spot in the top five.

The judging criteria in the division changed since Gaspari’s time in the limelight, which he maintains has affected the difficulty of the sport. Overall, he and other veterans of bodybuilding, like Lee Priest, are more critical of how athletes conduct themselves today.

There’s no question Rich Gaspari has looked after his health and longevity closely since hanging up his posing trunks. He continues to show what is possible after a career filled with accomplishments.
