Bodybuilder Sergio Oliva Jr. is leaving Spain and former six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates due to visa issues. In a recent post published on Instagram, Oliva Jr. spoke on the matter and updated fans on his bodybuilding prep for the 2024 season.
As the son of bodybuilding Hall of Famer Sergio Oliva, Oliva Jr. has had big shoes to fill as a surging IFBB Pro competitor. Boasting impressive muscularity and size, many assumed Oliva Jr. would one day reach the pinnacle of the Mr. Olympia mountain.
Oliva Jr. last competed at the 2023 Musclecontest Pro in third place. Considering his top-tier genetics and work ethic, fans have been counting down the days until his next show. In October 2023, he joined forces with former six-time Mr. Olympia winner Dorian Yates in Spain. While the two bonded over hardcore ‘blood and guts’ workouts, Oliva Jr. had to pause his preparations due to an untimely ankle fracture.
All good things must come to an end; Oliva Jr. recently mentioned that he has to leave Spain. Although he took valuable lessons as Yates’ mentee, he plans to forge ahead with his bodybuilding season in the months to come.

“Sad News” – Sergio Oliva Jr. Splits with Dorian Yates, Talks 2024 Season: ‘Not Sure What Show I’ll Be Doing Yet’
Oliva Jr. would have preferred finishing this prep with Yates but said if he remains in Spain, he could be banned from the country for up to four years. He was grateful for Yates, who taught him lessons inside and outside of bodybuilding.
“Sad news Europe won’t give me a visa and I unfortunately have to leave Spain. It really sucks I wanted to finish this prep with DY but I talked to a lawyer and since I’ve already over stayed I could be banned up to 4 years.
It sucks I got injured and couldn’t train with DY till the very end but I’m so thankful for all the things I’ve learned from him in the gym. Especially the things that have nothing to do with bodybuilding,” shared Sergio Oliva Jr.
As for his current bodybuilding season, Oliva Jr. was unsure which show he would be entering, but it sounds like we could see him on stage soon:
“I was told I could get a visa for next year so I plan to go back and finish what we started. Not sure what show I’ll be doing yet. But for now I’ll take what I’ve learned back to the USA and keep grinding some Heavy Duty! #BloodAndGuts
It’s been a long road for Sergio Olvia Jr., who found himself in trouble last year after accidentally killing a man in a car accident. While Oliva Jr. spent time in a Dubai jail which he likened to an episode of ‘Locked Up Abroad,’ he wasn’t found guilty of any wrongdoings.
Considering his genetics and potential, the future looks bright for Sergio Oliva Jr. Should he reveal his contest plans on the horizon, Fitness Volt will keep you updated on when and where you can see him back on stage!
