NFL legend Shannon Sharpe continues to test himself with grueling bodybuilding workouts. In his latest effort shared via YouTube on September 30, 2024, he joined FST-7 training founder Hany Rambod for a grueling chest and triceps workout, where he took in tips along the way.
Shannon Sharpe was a superpower on the football field, but his notoriety and fame haven’t waned since setting down the pigskin. His fitness levels are off the charts, having showcased impressive longevity at the age of 56. He has trained and honed his lifting skills under the tutelage of many bodybuilding greats, including former seven-time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath and Milos ‘The Mind’ Sarcev.
Considering the jaw-dropping strength and physique he boasts, many fans wonder if Sharpe could hold his own in a bodybuilding competition. Although that may never come to fruition, we got to measure his lifting skills thanks to his latest collaboration with Hany Rambod, who took time away from coaching Derek Lunsford, Hadi Choopan, and Chris Bumstead to teach this NFL legend how to make the most of his gym experience.
“He is definitely one of those that could definitely could have crossed over if he wanted to. Hell, he could still cross over if he wants to,” said Rambod.

Find their exercise selections below:
- Super incline chest press machine
- Super horizontal multi-press machine
- Super low chest fly machine
- Smith dual decline chest press machine
- Cable crossovers (Superset A)
- Pushups (Superset B)
- Cable tricep pushdown
- French press machine
- Standing tricep press down machine
Super incline chest press machine
Rambod urged Sharpe to keep his shoulders back while driving forward throughout repetitions on the incline chest press machine.
“On a lot of these machines, you’re going to feel like that complete range [of motion]. That’s why they are considered like the Ferrari because it feels smooth, very smooth. Shoulders back and drive, making sure that you’re breathing, not holding your breath,” shares Rambod.
Super horizontal multi-press machine
He emphasized the stretching portion of the movement during Sharpe’s sets on the super horizontal multi-press machine.
“What we want to do is stretch so everything gets really stretched out, less likely to get hurt, don’t have to use as much weight and then you get a lot of good muscle growth and then when you start dieting you can get more detail so you can look extra ripped,” Rambod shared.
Super low chest fly machine
Focusing on the squeeze, Rambod guided Sharpe through a new range of motion that he was unfamiliar with.
“You just really want to make sure that you’re maximizing that squeeze. We can definitely go a lot heavier because I know how strong you are but I’m giving you this new range of motion that you’ve never done before. Just really trying to make sure you get that peak contraction and a nice stretch.”
Smith dual decline chest press machine
Rambod watched carefully, encouraging Sharpe to take his sets slowly to maximize time under tension.
Cable crossovers (superset a)
‘The Pro Creator’ made sure Sharpe was getting an optimal stretch during the only superset of the workout, which saw him complete cable crossovers along with push-ups.
“Chest forward as you bring your arms back,” instructs Rambod.
Push-ups (superset b)
Sharpe executed push-ups to failure before moving into triceps-focused movements.
“This is where the moneys at,” says Sharpe. “That was 10 more than I thought I was going to get.”
Cable tricep pushdown
Practicing slow and controlled reps, Sharpe worked his arms with cable tricep pushdowns.
French press machine
Rambod advised Sharpe to bend his elbows more to emphasize a deep stretch.
“Bring your elbows back,” said Rambod. “Behind your head. Yeah, you got to work on your stretch.”
Standing tricep press down machine
Again, Rambod encouraged Sharpe to focus on a good stretch and contraction throughout the last exercise.
Physique Update
Shannon Sharpe’s presence within the bodybuilding community has only increased as of late. He welcomed former eight-time Mr. Olympia titleholder Ronnie Coleman on his Shay Shay Club podcast, where they smashed a chest workout together and discussed Coleman’s favorite bodybuilders as well as his all-time personal record lifts.
Sharpe’s latest workout is a testament to his longevity. At 56 years old, few men sport the raw strength and power of Shannon Sharpe, which made his workout with Hany Rambod all the more impressive.
