Following their expulsion from the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) for refusing to comply with WADA, USA Powerlifting (USAPL) held the first event in their Pro Series. The first event is the USAPL Virginia Pro, which happened in Ashburn, Virginia. Having only two categories, men’s open and women’s open, we were able to see 25 competitors battling it out for the total prize of $27,500. It was a raw competition, meaning athletes lift with no or little (only approved) equipment.

Ranking System Explained

Since there are only open categories, to make it fair, the competition didn’t use the weight lifted as a measure. They used the Dynamic Objective Team Scoring System (DOTS). DOTS gives a coefficient determined by specifying the body weight, which multiplied by the performance provided results gives us a DOTS point value that can be compared to other athletes.
