The 2024 Joe Weider’s Olympia Fitness & Performance Weekend is the biggest bodybuilding contest of the century. The bodybuilding community expected fireworks from the Men’s Open contest, and the athletes delivered!
The Men’s Open division, also known as the Mr. Olympia, is the biggest crowd-puller for the Olympia Weekend and the only contest spanning over two days. The pre-judging happens on Friday, and the champion is crowned on Saturday. The highly anticipated rematch between Derek Lunsford and Hadi Choopan is headlining this year’s Mr. Olympia.
The prejudging round is very crucial as the bodybuilders who make a dent on Day One are usually the frontrunners for the Sandow trophy on Saturday.
For the uninitiated, this is how the prejudging round plays out:
Depending on the roster’s depth, the pre-judging round can have multiple callouts. The first call-out usually comprises athletes who stand out from the moment they step on stage, making it the biggest goal of every athlete competing in a bodybuilding show.
The rest of the field is called center stage in subsequent callouts.

After every athlete has had their chance, judges isolate the athletes who have impressed but fallen just short of the top-three position. Then comes the all-important final call-out, where the podium contenders are revealed.
The big boys came out hot during the prejudging round.
Choopan’s opened the proceedings in the prejudging round, and his physique was a sight to behold. His serratus and oblique muscles are unmatched and he stepped up his conditioning from the last year.
Hunter Labarada showcased significant improvements from the 2023 Olympia. He brought a bigger, more symmetrical, and conditioned physique, and the judges immediately noticed that.
Martin Fitzwater brought his A-game to his Olympia debut and earned a spot in the coveted first callout.
Andrew Jacked elevated his physique to a new level, showcasing refined muscle lines, crisp definition, and exceptional conditioning. He was round in the right places and absolutely shredded to the bone.
In his second Olympia appearance, Dauda unveiled his most impressive physique yet, earning a spot in the final callout once again.
Not only is the reining champ Lunsford’s X-frame the best in business, but he also brought up his legs significantly this year. His grainy conditioning solidified his position as the man to beat.
As a repeat from the previous year, Choopan, Dauda, and Lunsford rounded up the final callout.
Most bodybuilding experts agree that each competitor displayed increasingly impressive levels of conditioning as the callouts continued, making the battle for the Sandow trophy increasingly fierce and unpredictable.
