Sonita Muluh made her debut at the 2024 IPF Sheffield Powerlifting Championships and certainly managed to justify the invitation that she received. The competition took place on February 10th, and Sonita opened it up with a spectacle. Namely, she managed to squat 300.5 kilograms (662.5 pounds) raw, which marked a new IPF World Record and an overall historic achievement.
Coming into this competition, one of Sonita Muluh’s biggest goals was to achieve a squat that exceeded 300 kilograms (661.4 pounds). She aimed for this since no woman in the history of powerlifting, across all federations, has managed to accomplish this feat in a sanctioned competition.
Sonita Muluh squatted 286 kilograms (630.5 pounds) and 290.5 kilograms (640.4 pounds) on her first and second attempts, both of which were over the record already. However, her second attempt did not look as comfortable as anyone expected, which raised doubts about her capabilities to reach her goal.
However, Sonita Muluh got fired up and walked out for her final attempt, ready to give it her all. Ultimately, she made her final attempt look easier than her second one did. After breaking the record, Sonita was overfilled with emotion, which was understandable considering how significant her achievement was.

Sonita Muluh also excelled in other events after the squat, and has missed just one of her nine attempts overall. She even exceeded the +84KG IPF Total World Record, but Brittany Schlater managed to reclaim it just a few minutes later.
