The 2024 EVLS Prague Pro left the bodybuilding world talking. On November 17, 2024, Chris Bumstead discussed his runner-up finish against Martin Fitzwater. Hadi Choopan also reacted to the performance, honoring Bumstead’s impact on bodybuilding.
The Prague Pro delivered, turning into one of the most memorable and stacked bodybuilding shows Europe had ever seen. It was a three-man battle in the finals between Chris Bumstead, Martin Fitzwater, and former two-time 212 Olympia Shaun Clarida. The Open class served as a true melting pot of talent with the top three hailing from three different bodybuilding categories.
In the end, Martin Fitzwater’s fullness and back poses were the difference-makers, which helped him earn gold. Bumstead, meanwhile, shocked the world, holding his own in the Open class without significant preparations. Shortly after the statement performance, Bumstead reinstated his retirement, saying his goodbyes to the bodybuilding stage once and for all.

Bumstead said his experience in Prague reminded him of why he loves the sport of bodybuilding. Even though it was the final contest of his career, he felt nervous getting on stage and enjoyed there being no ‘expectation to win.’

“Arguably the most fun I have ever had on stage. My heart is so full of love right now. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to feel doing this show so life decided to show me.
It truly reminded me why I love this sport so much. The nerves getting on stage, not in any expectation to win, but from the unknown of what’s to come and the deep desire to show up at my best.”
Instead of fixating on the result, Bumstead was fulfilled by the journey and effort behind his move to the Open division.
“The decision to do something for myself, to challenge myself in a new unknown area knowing the odds are stacked against me. Enjoying the effort and the journey rather than seeking the result. The standards you set in life are meant to be your own, living by them is a conscious daily decision.”
“Thank you to everyone who came to this show the energy was nothing I have ever experienced, you’re amazing Prague. And thank you @evls_prague_pro_official you put on an INCREDIBLE show, high production, organized, just top notch,” Bumstead shared.
Hadi Choopan reacted to Bumstead’s performance, labeling him a ‘classic hero.’
“Son, you were great, you proved yourself and don’t get tired, now it’s time to go back, hug your daughter, and let her say hello to her hero father, well done to you, son, you will remain a classic hero for your fans,” shared Hadi Choopan.
Hany Rambod, Bumstead’s coach, who recently retired from training elite athletes, gave his two cents on Bumstead stepping away from the stage.
“Last ride was a fun one in Prague.
Thank you to all who messaged me and created posts about my retirement, can’t wait to get back to everyone soon! 🙏❤️” Rambod shared.
Heading into the 2024 Prague Pro, Bumstead was doubtful about his chances of winning. Nevertheless, he held his own against the fourth-best bodybuilder in the world. While some believed he would ultimately compete at the 2025 Mr. Olympia in the Men’s Open division, it appears Bumstead is at peace with stepping away from the sport.
In his final act as a bodybuilder, Chris Bumstead broke boundaries, serving as a trailblazer for those following in his footsteps. Competing looks to be off the table, but he plans to influence the Classic Physique category by boosting its prize money for the Olympia next year.
