The 2025 Mr. Olympia results are still being debated. Shocking upsets, surprising triumphs, and breakout performers left the audience stunned. On Oct. 12, Wesley Vissers recapped the event and explained how Ramon Queiroz beat Mike Sommerfeld. He also discussed Derek Lunsford’s victory over Hadi Choopan.

In Las Vegas, Nevada, the best bodybuilders on the planet squared off for Olympia gold. In the headlining Men’s Open class, defending champ Samson Dauda came in downsized, causing him to drop to fourth place. This left room for Derek Lunsford to assert himself as the new champion following an incredibly close battle with Hadi Choopan.

In Classic Physique, a new champion emerged in the wake of Chris Bumstead’s retirement. Although Sommerfeld was considered the on-paper favorite by many, Queiroz finally nailed his peak and posing to win the vacant Classic Physique Olympia title. With the event shaking up both divisions, Vissers reflected on the final results.

In the video, Vissers thought Lunsford would take the win based on what he saw during prejudging.

“Honestly, I did think Derek was going to win,” said Vissers. “Hadi was catching up quite quickly to Derek. Eventually, of course, as we all know, Derek won, but Hadi came very, very close. So, that’s why I started to doubt quite a lot whether Derek was still the champion.”

He said the biggest shock of the night was Dauda’s drop to fourth place.

“The true surprise of the show and maybe in a not so positive way was Samson. He was the defending Olympia champion, so of course, me, and a lot of others were watching him in that top four thinking it would be between him and Hadi and Derek, with Andrew being a solid fourth, but we were pretty much all wrong.”

He explained that Dauda played the conditioning game and paid for it, something Vissers encountered when he lost his title at the 2025 Arnold Classic.

“Samson was the only one in prejudging who could make up the most ground by getting fuller. I think they tried to play the conditioning game, but as I am well aware myself, if you are too lean, especially as a tall guy before a competition, you will not be able to get the fullness back.”

As for Classic Physique, Vissers shared that he could tell Queiroz brought his best, especially to the finals.

“I cannot hide it; I’m incredibly happy that Ramon Dino won. He’s such a nice guy. He’s really somebody who deserves it. The moment he won, you could already see in the finals, he noticed that he was the best. You could see it in his confidence, his smile, the way he posed, way more confident than the previous year.”

“You could really see he knew he had it. When you’re peaked right, you simply know okay, I’m not going to look any better than this. We didn’t do anything wrong. Let’s just enjoy, and who knows? You might win, and he did.”

He believes Sommerfeld’s struggles with the height/weight cap affected his look onstage, particularly his lower body from behind.

“Mike, his fullness, because of the height difference, he had to lose quite a lot of pounds, which you could see in his entire physique.

The legs were still quite strong, obviously, he was even a bit more sharp and more separated in the legs, but the moment he turned around, you could see the gap in between the legs, which he always had, but was now made much more apparent, which Ramon Dino did not suffer from at all.”

He had Queiroz winning the contest, noting that his proportions were the difference-maker.

“Ramon was proportionate and he was a true Classic Physique bodybuilder,” adds Vissers.

Vissers hasn’t been the only bodybuilder to give his take on the results. Shawn Ray recently assessed the Mr. Olympia results. He thought Choopan should have won the event over Lunsford. He added that Dauda looked flat and deflated.

It’s the start of a new era in Classic Physique with Queiroz helming the division. Fans look forward to seeing how Vissers compares with the new champion when they inevitably meet face-to-face again.
