Tanji Johnson

GenderFemale
Pro Card2013
StatusRetired

Tanji Johnson won the Arnold Classic fitness title in 2013 and finished on the Olympia podium six times without ever winning it. A professional contest is named after her.

Known for

Six Olympia podiums, all of them second or third: runner-up in 2009, 2011, 2015 and 2016, third in 2013 and 2014. Nobody in the fitness division has stood that close to the title that often without taking it.

2013 was her best season, with the Arnold Classic fitness title and the Arnold Classic Europe in the same year. She won the Vancouver Pro in 2015 and the Emerald Cup Pro back in 2005.

The Tanji Johnson Classic is a sanctioned professional show carrying her name, which is a form of recognition the placings do not capture.

Early career

Her recorded career opens in 2001 with a win in the short figure class at the Emerald Cup, and runs to 2016. Fifteen years is a long time to compete in a division judged on a gymnastic routine.

Where the titles came from

Counted from the same results table below: an appearance is one contest entered (in the years the Olympia also judged weight classes, one appearance can carry two placings), an Olympia title is the overall win in that division, and Top 3 counts first, second and third together. The last row is every professional contest on record for Tanji Johnson.

Where these results come from. Each contest in the table was recorded from a named source, and for Tanji Johnson those sources are MuscleMemory and NPC Contests. MuscleMemory is the exception: the archive we recorded those older shows from no longer answers at the addresses we hold, so it is credited by name and not offered as a link.

Legacy

Johnson is the clearest case in the fitness division of a career defined by the title that did not come. Six podiums, an Arnold Classic, and a professional show named after her is a record that outlasts most championships.

In 11 meetings, Oksana Grishina finished ahead of Tanji Johnson 9 times to 2.

Opponents are ranked by how often they shared a stage and how big the stage was, not by reputation. A meeting is one contest where both competed in the same division and both were placed.

Sources

Competition placings on this page come from our own contest database and cover her record from 2001 to 2016.

Our corpus holds no height, weight or birth date for her.

Win rate here is first-place finishes as a share of all 19 professional contest results. It is published only where a career holds at least five, because below that a single placing moves the figure by twenty points or more.
