The bodybuilding community is yet again rocked with tragic news, as champion Daniel Alexander has tragically passed away. He was very young at the time of his passing.

Alexander was a 2017 Mr. USA Middleweight Champion, having blown away the competition. Additionally, he had many other accolades on his record, including winning the 2014 California Championships. As an amateur, he was beginning to pick up momentum, making his way to a pro debut.

In fact, it was his second pro show that he was preparing for, when this tragedy struck. According to reports, Alexander passed away while preparing for the Legion Sport Fest, on November 9th.

Furthermore, he was looking to compete in the 212 Division in this contest.

Currently, there are no details on the cause of death having been revealed. However, this news was confirmed by friends and family of Alexander and bodybuilding prep coach Dave Kalick as well as other members of the bodybuilding community. Messages of support and mourning flooded in, demonstrating how highly he was thought of.

It is with sad heavy, anguished heart reporting the passing of my brother Daniel. This is gut wrenching and shocking beyond comprehension, there is a huge hole in my heart.

Asking please for prayers thoughts for Daniel’s family, close friends and loved ones. You will be forever missed and loved. Fly free Daniel and rest peacefully.

While he was still very young in his career, Daniel Alexander was a very promising prospect. He made his amateur debut in 2009, competing at the Pacific USA Championships. However, he was unable to keep a super active competition schedule, never competing more than twice a year. Moreover, he took time off from 2011-2014, further delaying his progress.

Daniel

This return in November would have been his first contest since that 2017 victory.

This news is just the most recent in a string of tragic deaths in the bodybuilding community. While Alexander is certainly one of the younger competitors to have lost his life recently, he was not the youngest. Nevertheless, this news is still tragic all the same. It just further adds to the heartbreaking year that 2019 has been for the sport.

FitnessVolt sends its sincerest condolences to the friends and family of Daniel Alexander. Stay tuned for further updates, as the story develops.

With all the bodybuilders dying at young ages, you have to maybe wonder if there is some common cause? Any suggestions? Maybe doing steroids is a bad idea?

Yes, it’s a very bad idea. The workload on the heart supporting such huge, sudden muscle gain is difficult to maintain.
