Dorian Yates hasn’t let his strength go since retiring from the sport. In a recent Instagram reel, shared on August 27, 2025, he maxed out the seated leg curl weight stack for easy reps.

During the peak years of his career, Yates worked behind the scenes to build a monstrous physique. Fittingly nicknamed “The Shadow,” he’d fly under the radar ahead of the Mr. Olympia, but once his pump cover came off, his rivals knew it was game on.

Ultimately, Yates left the sport on top, securing six consecutive Mr. Olympia titles from 1992–1997. He dominated with mass when the sport was full of aesthetic threats, like Kevin Levrone, Shawn Ray, and Flex Wheeler. Though Yates retired almost two decades ago, he’s still dealing with injuries.

Aside from the bicep and tricep tears he suffered during his reign, Yates finally had his right hip replacement surgery — a lingering problem he admits he’s lived with for years. Thanks to consistent physiotherapy sessions, the 63-year-old made a full recovery.

Bodybuilding Legend Dorian Yates Maxes Out Leg Curl Weight Stack at 63

In the recent Instagram reel, Yates showed that his lower body strength hasn’t left him. He performed reps on the seated leg curl machine with ease.

“Full stack on the seated leg curl machine! Still strong on the hamstrings having a little play about… Showing these youngsters how it’s done😉” Dorian Yates shared.

Yates likes to keep his fan base up to date on how he bounces back from tough workouts. He recently laid out his simple post-workout supplement stack he relies on for recovery and muscle growth. The bodybuilding legend makes sure to add creatine, glutamine, and whey isolate to his shake once training is complete.

Refueling smart helps Yates focus on longevity. This is especially important for him since he utilizes a high-intensity training approach, inspired by the late Mike Mentzer and Arthur Jones.

His training system centers around achieving failure instead of chasing an arbitrary number of sets and reps. Yates has credited this system for not only helping build his physique, but also because it’s saved him time throughout the years inside the gym.

Even in his 60s, Yates is showing that strength is the last thing to go for a legendary bodybuilder. After a career full of achievements, he’s still determined to push himself in training.
