Chris Bumstead has reigned over the Classic Physique division for four years and with his impressive stature he has the potential to hail supreme for much longer. Recently, bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler shared in a YouTube video why he believes Bumstead will retire as the most iconic Classic Physique standout of all time.
Chris Bumstead has become a familiar face both within the sport of bodybuilding and outside in the fitness world. Amassing millions of followers across multiple social media platforms, Bumstead has become a poster child for the ideal Classic Physique look. Cbum actively shares his journey online giving updates on everything from his diet and workouts to mental health check-ins.
While Bumstead’s success has been nothing but impressive, he has faced a plethora of adversity on his way to greatness. Being the open book that he is, Cbum always reveals the struggles that come along with being successful. Further, he has elaborated on his anxiety which has been an obstacle he’s had to overcome during all of his bodybuilding preps.
With his fear of failure constantly looming over him, Cbum is always his harshest critic and actively pushes himself to be the best he can be. Last year, Chris Bumstead dealt with many upsets before Olympia which included his brother-in-law Iain Valliere no longer coaching him. This led to Hany Rambod being his new trainer which seems to have worked out for the better.

Before competing, Cbum suffered a bicep tear, but he still managed to defend his title and win the Classic Physique Olympia for the fourth time. While he faced some heat about the development of his arms, Cbum has made it a point to flaunt his massive bicep peaks in his physique updates as of late.
Chris Bumstead’s Classic Physique Reign Seems To Have No End In Sight
In light of his dominance, many wonder if or when Cbum will be dethroned. Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler was the latest to tackle the subject. ‘The Comeback Kid’ didn’t mince words; he believes Chris Bumstead boasts some of the best genetics out there.
“He’s a humble champion. He has some adversity that he’s had to go through in order to reach success. He doesn’t say a lot so there’s not a lot of arrogance there. He just puts the work in and he just does it. He’s a genetic wonder, he’s got the width, he’s got the proportions. If you compare body part to body part next to some of his competition you maybe might not think he’d win but it’s like the Yates thing right? He’s got the poses, he’s the leader of that division, he’ll go down as the most iconic classic physique guy of all time.”
Cutler explained why Cbum has been able to attract the attention of audiences outside of the bodybuilding community and why this will help him in the future.
“It’s relatable. He is interactive, his media is interactive. He is at an age bracket that he was able to capture those generations. That division is a younger division, so there is more eyes on that. It’s more obtainable, it’s not necessarily the freak factor so he shows. He was chasing this in his early twenties, I mean he’s not even thirty years old yet.
He is able to just really put out the good image of ‘Hey I want to chase the dream and I want to go after and I went through adversity to get to there and I was able to come out on top’ and he’s doing a lot of great things right now. He is taking advantage of whatever opportunities come to him to allow him to be able to expand his reach and I think he will continue to be more popular as he continues to move on to other ventures eventually as he steps away from the stages” Jay Cutler says.
Jay Cutler shares tips for Bumstead’s rivals who are hoping to catch him off guard:
“You hope he slips. You hope he slips because unfortunately, that structure is not necessarily beatable right now. I mean Ruffin has great structure too but..We just talked about the open so like Samson and Andrew Jacked bring it like what do you say about Hadi or Derek can they challenge him?
Derek’s proportions are pretty crazy I just don’t see anyone, Urs is obviously is I think is coming up too and Ramon’s been knocking at the door but Bumstead is just you have to hope he slips and I think he put himself in a position to avoid slipping by bringing on Hany as a coach and stepped away from his brother in law for the time being. We see what he does he put a home gym, he put a gym in a warehouse there so he’s just very honed in on what he does. It’s his passion, this is what he does and it’s a living and he treats it that way.”
There are several standouts vying for the Classic Physique crown including Terrence Ruffin who just earned an impressive win at the 2023 Dubai Pro after qualifying for Olympia ahead of schedule due to his impressive physique. He also claimed gold at the 2023 Legion Sports Fest Pro.
Additionally, Ramon Rocha Queiroz is one to watch even though Bumstead himself has brushed him off. Should the Brazilian star bring enough muscle volume and conditioning, many believe he could have a solid shot at a big upset.
From his shredded physique to his ability to connect with the younger generation, Bumstead has ingrained himself as a bodybuilding name that will be remembered for decades to come. Fans look forward to watching Chris Bumstead go for his fifth Classic Physique win this weekend at the 2023 Mr. Olympia!
