Bodybuilder Rafael Brandao has set his sights on two high-profile contests. On April 17, the rising star confirmed his entry for the 2026 New York Pro and Pittsburgh Pro.
Brandao remains one of Brazil’s most promising Men’s Open contenders. In 2024, he impressed fans with a dominant performance at the Romania Pro, showcasing Classic lines and crisp conditioning. Despite qualifying for the 2025 Mr. Olympia, Brandao sat out and used the time away to grow his physique, especially his back and legs.
He made his return at the stacked 2026 Arnold Classic. However, Brandao struggled with the lineup and left Ohio in sixth place. Fans expected him to rebound at the Arnold Classic South America, but it appears he has other plans on tap.

In the YouTube video, Brandao shared that he skipped the Arnold Classic South America show to focus on improvements.
“We’re going to represent Brazil in these two big championships. I even wanted to compete at the Arnold Classic Brasil, but based on our strategy we decided we need a few more weeks to see how my physique responds and keep bringing improvements.”
Instead of competing in his backyard, he intends to represent Brazil at two of the most competitive events of the season: the New York Pro and Pittsburgh Pro.
“So we chose to compete at the New York Pro and the Pittsburgh Pro, which are two big shows, and we’re going there to represent Brazil. Just to be clear, I think it’s important to say: this was my decision.
New York and Pittsburgh were my choice and the responsibility is mine. Let’s go for it. Count on your support, guys. Let’s represent Brazil in these two big championships and for sure it’s going to work out,” Rafael Brandao said.
Brandao always spices up his training with different partners and workouts. Throughout his career, he has taken tips and pumped iron alongside former seven-time 212 Olympia champion Flex Lewis. While Lewis is retired, he still offers a unique perspective on exercise routines and stage presentation.
Competitors have limited opportunities to secure Mr. Olympia passage. Athletes have from September 15, 2025, to August 30, 2026, so pressure is mounting fast. It will be interesting to see if any other stars jump into the New York Pro or the Pittsburgh Pro. All roads lead to the highly anticipated 2026 Mr. Olympia, set for September 24-27 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
