Terrence Ruffin teamed up with Rich Gaspari for a hellacious leg workout. At the peak of his bodybuilding career, Gaspari was known for his intensity and displayed a similar vigor while training with Ruffin.
Terrence Ruffin is one of the foremost competitors in the Classic Physique division of the IFBB Pro League. He is best known for winning the Arnold Classic Physique title two times in his career – in 2021 and 2022.
Ruffin came close to winning the Classic Physique Olympia title in 2020 and 2021, achieving runner-up finishes behind Chris Bumstead. He suffered a slight setback over the next couple of years and finished sixth and fifth at the 2022 and the 2023 Olympia, respectively.
Ruffin is currently in off-season training and recently posted a video of his leg workout on YouTube where he partnered with veteran bodybuilder Rich Gaspari.
One of the greatest bodybuilders from the 1980s and 1990s era, Gaspari was known for his insane muscle definition and conditioning. He became the inaugural Arnold Classic champion in 1989 and was a major hurdle in the way of top contenders and even Mr. Olympia champions of the time.
The duo went through the workout with furious intensity. So without further delay, let’s see how the veteran bodybuilder compelled Ruffin to push his limits.

Rich Gaspari and Terrence Ruffin go through an intense leg workout
Leg Extensions
Rich Gaspari and Terrence Ruffin started the training session with this quad isolation movement. The duo performed a few sets and concluded the exercise with two static holds to keep the muscles under tension for a longer duration.
Leg Extensions and other leg movements can be harsh on the knees as it is one of the most crucial joints in the lower body. Gaspari noted that using the knee sleeves to keep this joint warmed up is the best way to avoid training injuries.
“I always tell people that these knee sleeves – it keeps them warm, moist… So you won’t have injuries.”
Inverted Leg Press
Gaspari and Ruffin next took to the inverted leg press to stimulate the leg muscles further. Unlike the regular leg press, the lifter carries 100 percent of the weight loaded on the machine as it moves straight up and down. However, this variation requires excellent hip mobility and those with hip issues should take a cautious approach.
Gaspari and Ruffin cranked out solid sets on the plate-loaded machine to work the quads and glutes and took to the next exercise.
Hack Squats
This machine exercise is an excellent way of working all the muscles as the traditional barbell squats. However, it puts minimal stress on the lower back. Gaspari guided the two-time Arnold Classic winner through intense sets of the movement. Following this, they jumped into the final exercise to close the show.
Hip Press
The workout concluded with a few sets of hip presses on an iso-lateral machine. Ruffin and Gaspari executed a few heavy sets of the movement unilaterally and called it a day in the gym.
Overall, the workout included:
- Leg Extensions
- Inverted Leg Press
- Hack Squats
- Hip Press on Iso-Lateral Machine
Terrence Ruffin will attempt to get back in the top three at the 2024 Olympia. He has been there before and seems motivated to regain the momentum. With the correct approach and guidance from the likes of Rich Gaspari, the goal is certainly achievable.
