Romanian bodybuilder Andrei Deiu is making the most of his time in the gym and preparing for his Classic Physique debut. Apart from being a professional bodybuilder, Deiu is a fitness model and influencer. The 28-year-old earned the IFBB Pro card by winning the 2017 Amateur Olympia. He then joined hands with famed bodybuilding coach Hany Rambod and made his professional bodybuilding debut at the 2017 Arnold Classic Europe in the Men’s Physique division. Deiu achieved a runner-up spot at the show and became the talk of the town for the massive potential he had.
A win at the 2019 Romania Muscle Fest Pro earned him a direct qualification for the 2020 Olympia. Andrei had a promising performance at the show and finished fifth in the Men’s Physique division at the show. After proving his mettle on the biggest bodybuilding stage, Andrei Deiu returned to competition at the 2021 IFBB Republic of Texas Pro and came out victorious. The win earned him a second shot at the Olympia title and the Romanian Pro finished seventh at the 2021 Olympia. He last competed at the 2022 Texas Pro and secured a second place finish. In November 2022, Andrei Deiu announced his decision to move up to the Classic Physique division.
On March 16, 2023, Andrei Deiu posted a video of a back training session on his YouTube channel. So without further delay, let’s take a closer look at the detailed account of this training session.
Andrei Deiu goes through a back workout
Lat Pulldowns
Andrei Deiu and his training partner started the training session with lat pulldowns using the Hoist Fitness Lat Pulldown machine. Lat pulldown is a crucial exercise for back development and primarily works the latissimus dorsi muscles in the back. The seat position of the machine used by Deiu adjusts as the exercise arm moves. The company website claims that this feature achieves unrestricted joint movement along with core activating benefits. Deiu performed three working sets of this exercise for 10 to 12 reps. He then did a triple drop set along with his training partner and jumped into the next exercise.

Super Power Panatta Rows
After working with a vertical pulling movement, the Romanian bodybuilder took to this horizontal pulling movement. Seated rows not only help build a thicker back by working the latissimus dorsi and the upper back muscles but it also helps with improving the posture. Deiu used the Super Power Panatta rows machine for doing the rows. This machine is specifically built to stimulate the middle back region and build the muscle thickness in that area.
“I’m not trying to go super heavy because I want to have a good mind-muscle connection… 5G connection (Laughs)… So I can squeeze, you know. Squeeze and hold the movement and also stretch all the way. So this is how you grow the muscle and get that quality 3D fibers…” Andrei Deiu said.
Deiu powered through three solid sets of the super power rows before taking up another rowing exercise.
Neutral Grip Seated Cable Rows
Switching to the cable machine next, Andrei Deiu performed the seated cable rows using a neutral grip handle. After pushing through a few sets of the seated cable rows, the 28-year-old shifted his focus to the T-Bar rows.
Machine Incline T-Bar Rows
T-bar row is arguably the best rowing exercise for back development. It works pulling muscles like latissimus dorsi, teres major, teres minor, trapezius, infraspinatus, posterior deltoids, brachialis and pectoralis major. Andrei Deiu pushed through some heavy sets of machine T-bar rows and followed on with the final exercises of the day.
Superset – Cable Straight Arm Pulldown and Cable Face Pulls
Andrei Deiu used the superset of these two exercises as the finisher to his training session. Supersets are an effective way of increasing the aerobic intensity of the training session as there are often very short rest periods between two consecutive sets. Deiu added the last bit of stimulus to his back muscles with this superset and wrapped up the training session.
“This superset I just did is one of my favorite exercises and a superset on back day because I actually feel like (by the) last exercise the muscles are actually stretching out and contracting properly. So give this a try!” Andrei Deiu commented after the superset.
Overall, the workout included:
- Lat Pulldown – 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps and 1 triple drop set
- Super Power Panatta Rows – 3 to 4 working sets with 10 to 12 reps
- Neutral Grip Seated Cable Rows – 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps and 1 triple drop set
- Machine Incline T-Bar Rows – 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps and 1 triple drop set
- Superset – Cable Straight Arm Pulldown and Cable Face Pulls – 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps and 1 triple drop set
(Note: Number of sets and reps mentioned are based on visual observation of the video. Actual numbers may vary)
