She believes tracking food is integral to steady weight loss. She recommends doing this before making drastic dietary changes.
“Tip number one would be to start tracking your food. At the very very beginning, I wouldn’t say just completely change up what you’re eating.”
She explains that avoiding snacking throughout the day can also have an impact on body composition.
“I think the biggest thing is people don’t realize the little snacks you have, ‘Oh it was just a handful of pretzels.’ You forget that you have all these little random things throughout the day so track absolutely everything so you can get a baseline of what you eat in a day versus than just completely changing it.”
Avoiding processed foods is paramount for weight control, explained DLB.
“A big thing that I try to stay away from as much as possible is processed food. So if you can cut all the processed food out of it. I know there will be some here and there. All real food, whole foods, things that don’t come in a package that you’re not just heating up in the microwave.”
In addition, adequate hydration is another important factor as it can affect how well you recover from exercise while helping the organs function optimally.
“Lots and lots of water, it’ll keep you hydrated. You’re less likely to get injured, helps the recovery process, it also helps with every organ functioning properly in your body. So drink lots of water, stay hydrated.”
Tracking macros, especially protein, can help individuals lose weight, so DLB says it’s important to prioritize it.
“I think if you are going to track macros, the most important macro to track is protein. Making sure you get enough protein because one, if you’re trying to build muscle, you’re trying to lean out, protein is going to one, fill you up, it’s going to help repair muscles after you lift, and it’s going to help build them. Get enough protein.”
