Bodybuilding legend Dorian Yates‘ road to pristine health is going well after his total right hip replacement surgery last November. On March 19, 2025, he offered an update on his progress and revealed his latest rehab training routine.
In his prime, Yates took the throne after Lee Haney‘s dominant eight-year reign as Mr. Olympia. He brought unparalleled size and muscle hardness to the stage, helping him win six consecutive Sandow trophies against stars of the sport like Shawn Ray, Kevin Levrone, and Flex Wheeler.
Throughout his career, Yates suffered injuries but never allowed them to dictate his success. And while he’s long retired from the sport, he still faces health setbacks, many of which he picked up throughout his bodybuilding tenure. At 62 years old, he remains entrenched in the sport, and although he recently went through a lengthy hip operation, it looks like he’s closer than ever to a clean bill of health.

“Here’s a quick update with my progress post surgery.
So you’ll see a few exercises I do for my rehab training once a week. It’s about getting my balance and range of motion back mainly, and I’m getting better and better each session.”
He admits the pain has subsided, sharing that he probably should have undergone surgery much sooner. He said his hip ‘feels as good as new’ now.
“There’s not really been any pain at all to be honest so thankfully it’s been all positive. Everyone over the years has told me that if my hip was degenerated and if I was in pain, to just get the surgery done. So yeah maybe I could’ve done it earlier but I wanted to exhaust all possibilities first,” he shared.
“But what I can say is that since the op, it’s been a new lease of life and it feels as good as new!”
With his health almost back to 100%, Yates shared that he was able to hike and ride his bike recently.
“I’ve actually been hiking and rode my bike over the past couple of weeks but I’m still taking it slow… for now😉”
Yates has taken every avenue at his disposal to enhance his health as of late. Former Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler introduced him to Pilates, a welcome addition to his fitness regimen. Yates explained that regular Pilates sessions have made him more flexible than he was 30 years ago.
Yates continues to inspire his fans with an unrelenting commitment to health and longevity. He continues to serve as a role model and compass for aspiring athletes following in his footsteps.
