Peptides are the latest craze in bodybuilding, prompting decorated coach Hany Rambod to take a closer look. In an October 12 video, he broke down how to use GLP-1s in bodybuilding without losing lean muscle tissue.

Rambod is a 25-time Olympia-winning coach. He has guided some of the best Men’s Open athletes the IFBB Pro League has seen, including Jay Cutler, Phil Heath, Derek Lunsford, Hadi Choopan, and Chris Bumstead. Through years of experience, he’s developed proven training systems and remains a well-respected authority in the sport.

Hany Rambod Breaks Down How to Use GLP-1s in Bodybuilding

In the video, Rambod explained the role of GLP-1s in bodybuilding. He said they were initially used for treating diabetes, but gained popularity because they effectively suppress appetite.

“Absolutely. Now, GLP-1s are the forefront of the peptide discussion. Starting off with Ozempic, a lot of people early on were utilizing it for diabetes, but then the side effect of eating less had become a huge, huge benefit. What you have to understand is there are many GLP’s now. You don’t have to start off with just Ozempic anymore.”

He warned that weight training and sticking to a high-protein diet are important for those taking GLP-1s, as they can help preserve lean muscle.

“As you work with your qualified physician, they are going to be able to walk you through the pros and cons of each of the GLP-1s. The thing that you have to remember is you have to make sure you weight train and eat enough protein, otherwise, you are at a much higher rate of muscle loss due to the fact that you simply will eat less and when you eat less, chances are you’re going to be eating less protein.”

“Make sure you eat enough protein. Make sure you are training hard in the gym, so you’re able to also hold on to that harder muscle,” Hany Rambod shared.

Hany Rambod isn’t the only high-profile name in bodybuilding looking at GLP-1s. Former seven-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger also examined these new peptides. He downplayed the muscle-loss effects from GLP-1s and said they don’t significantly impact strength.

“One of the biggest concerns people have about GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro is muscle loss. Body scans show people losing “lean mass” alongside fat, and that’s triggered fears of weakness and frailty. New research suggests the reality is more complicated and much less alarming.”

Rambod continues to guide the next generation of lifters coming up. While he views GLP-1s as a useful tool, he recommends always consulting with a doctor first before getting on any peptides.
