Jay Cutler still keeps a close eye on the division that turned him into a star. In a recent endeavor, Jay Cutler named his ‘kings’ of the Open at the Mr. Olympia and reflected on Nick Walker’s close victory against Martin Fitzwater at the 2024 New York Pro.
From dethroning eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman to becoming the only man to win back a Mr. Olympia title, Jay Cutler remains one of the most respected and accomplished athletes to compete in the IFBB Pro League. His achievements extend beyond the stage as he exited the sport with his health intact, sporting next-level longevity.
Although Cutler still promotes the sport internationally, he makes time to break down the inner workings of the division he once ruled over. Considering the 2024 Mr. Olympia contest is approaching in less than five months, conversations about the show’s top contenders are heating up with fans and bodybuilding veterans speculating who will take the title.
Jay Cutler Names ‘Kings’ of the Open, Discusses Nick Walker’s 2024 New York Pro Win
While Walker left Teaneck, New Jersey with a second New York Pro ring, Cutler thought the show had its share of controversy.

“Walker wins two. A little controversy there, I mean I think he was still pretty dominant but Martin looked good. We talked about that didn’t we?” says Cutler.
Fitzwater, who trailed behind Walker by one point in prejudging and the finals, narrowly took runner-up. While it was an impressive showing, Cutler was unsure how he’d fare at the Mr. Olympia.
“I don’t know [how Martin Fitzwater will do at the Mr. Olympia] it’s hard to say. Until he stands up there with the guys, I’m not going to be one to predict. I think he looked really sharp but Nick is just very muscular man.”
Cutler says Mr. Olympia is a ‘different game,’ and expects Hunter Labrrada to do ‘really well’ when it’s time to compete at the sport’s biggest event of the year.
“The Olympia is a different game bro. We always talk about the guys as they lead in. Remember, Dexter Jackson, he was phenomenal and then once you’re bigger man it’s hard to stand with some of these guys. So, you know who I expect to do really well, is Hunter. Hunter is looking really good dude. If he puts it together, these guys are in trouble, I think a lot of guys,” states Jay Cutler.
While there are plenty of contenders, Cutler underlined that Derek Lunsford, Hadi Choopan, and Samson Dauda are still ‘kings’ of the Men’s Open.
“Listen, Derek is still the king, Hadi is still the king, Samson is still the king, there’s just certain talent there that if you stack them up I mean you’re still looking at Walker pushing those guys, you know?”
Even though Cutler has confidence in Lunsford, Choopan, and Dauda, he refuses to count out the freak factor and potential of Nick Walker. Before ‘The Mutant’ picked up the win at the New York Pro, Cutler stated that he could possibly win the Mr. Olympia later this year.
The Men’s Open lineup for the 2024 Mr. Olympia continues to build with still plenty more contenders eager to earn their right to compete. Cutler expects an action-packed showdown when the event returns to Las Vegas, Nevada October 10-13.
