UK Golden Era Bodybuilding Legend John Bubb Passes Away at 88 

John Bubb took second place to Arnold Schwarzenegger at the 1968 Mr. Universe contest and leaves behind a lasting legacy.

Sadly, the bodybuilding world was dealt another damaging blow after news of John Bubb‘s passing circulated online. Bubb was one of the UK’s most famous bodybuilders during the golden era; his son confirmed he died at 88 on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. As of this writing, the cause of death has not been revealed. 

Cutting his teeth during the golden age of bodybuilding, Bubb was highly respected in the community and his physique was ahead of its time. In addition to giving a young Arnold Schwarzenegger all he could handle at the 1968 Mr. Universe, Bubb competed against prolific athletes in their prime including the late Bill Pearl, Reg Park, Sergio Oliva, and Dave Draper

While Bubb competed in the NABBA federation for most of his career, he eventually made an appearance in the IFBB Pro League in 1971. His son, stricken with grief, confirmed his passing, and won’t forget the accomplishments of his father, who served as a trailblazer in the growing sport.

Golden Era Bodybuilder John Bubb Dies at 88 

Bubb leaves behind a loving family after passing away on June 26, 2024. 

“To the most amazing person I’ve ever met who sadly passed away today. Husband to Jean. Father to Andrew and Austin. Grandfather to Emily, George, Ellis,Lucas, Olivia and Hayden and great grandfather to Reginald and Rosie.”
