The arguments, answered
Head-to-head placings from contests both athletes actually entered, in the same division. Every one of these is a record, not an opinion.

Questions we ran the whole record against
Each of these is computed from every qualifying result on file, not from a sample and not from anybody's recollection. The finding is stated in full below; the study page shows the working, the year-by-year series and the coverage it was computed over.
The Average Mr. Olympia Winning Age
Across 61 Men's Open Mr. Olympia titles with recorded dates from 1965 to 2025, the average winner was 32.6 years old on contest day. The decade average changed from 26.8 in the 1960s to 34.7 in the 2020s.
Computed studyMr. Olympia Titles by Country
United States has the most recorded Men's Open Mr. Olympia titles: 37 of 61 titles with a recorded country (61%). The remaining titles are split across 8 other countries.
Computed studyThe Most Common Division Switches in Pro Bodybuilding
The most common division switch in pro bodybuilding is Men's Open Bodybuilding to Men's 212 Bodybuilding, recorded 23 times. Across 122 tracked migrations, 66% went on to win at least one contest in their new division.
Computed from the Fitness Volt bodybuilding database on . Each study page states the rows its own figure was computed over.
What bodybuilding is, and what this page holds
Bodybuilding is a sport judged on how a physique looks, not on what it lifts or how fast it moves. Competitors train and diet toward a single day, present the result on stage in a fixed set of mandatory poses, and a panel of judges places them first to last. No clock runs and no lift is recorded. Judges rank rather than score, their placings are added up, and the lowest total wins, which is why a winning number on a scorecard looks small.
The sport is split into divisions, and the division decides what the judges are looking for. Men's Physique marks extreme muscularity down. Classic Physique holds competitors to a maximum weight for their height. Men's Open sets no weight limit at all. Each division has its own pose list, its own attire rule and its own scoring split, so an athlete who wins one can place nowhere in the next.
Two titles organise the professional calendar. The Mr. Olympia has run every year since 1965 and is the one every pro season points at; athletes reach it by winning or placing at sanctioned pro shows through the year. The Arnold Classic, first held in 1989, is the title that comes next.
This page is the way into our record of all of it: 350,000+ placings from 6,000+ contests, covering 110,000+ athletes, the oldest from 1934. Every figure below is derived from those results, and where a detail was never published we leave it blank rather than fill it in.
When each division reached the Olympia stage
The Olympia began as one contest for one division and took on the rest a few at a time. Each year below is the first Olympia our record holds a champion for in that division.
| First Olympia | Division |
|---|---|
| 1965 | Men's Open Bodybuilding |
| 1980 | Women's Bodybuilding |
| 1995 | Women's Fitness |
| 2003 | Women's Figure |
| 2008 | Men's 212 Bodybuilding |
| 2010 | Women's Bikini |
| 2013 | Men's Physique |
| 2013 | Women's Physique |
| 2016 | Men's Classic Physique |
| 2018 | Men's Wheelchair |
| 2021 | Women's Wellness |
These are Olympia debuts, not the years the divisions were created. A division is normally contested at other pro shows for a season or two before the Olympia takes it on, so a year here can sit later than the date a federation gives. Women's Fit Model has no Olympia edition on record at all, so it has no year here.
About competitive bodybuilding results
Fitness Volt covers professional and amateur bodybuilding competition, including the Mr. Olympia, Arnold Classic, international IFBB Pro League shows, and NPC events.
Its twelve IFBB Pro division pages are built from recorded contest results and athlete histories.
The Men's Open Bodybuilding division is the flagship category, the one Larry Scott won at the first Olympia. Classic Physique uses height-based weight limits and emphasizes proportions, aesthetics, and condition.
The women's side includes Bikini, Figure, Wellness, Women's Physique, Women's Fitness, Women's Bodybuilding, and Women's Fit Model.
Every athlete profile includes their full competition history, division breakdown, Olympia appearances, and head-to-head records. Use the compare tool to see how any two athletes stack up across their careers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where this data comes from
Every figure on this page is computed from the recorded competition results, so the totals always match the contests behind them. The records themselves are checked by hand, and corrections are made against the sources named on each contest page.
Placings come from federation listings for modern contests and from historical sources for earlier eras, and each contest page names the source behind it.
Where a detail is not on record it is left blank rather than estimated. A missing height, a missing birth date or a missing venue means we do not have it, not that the athlete lacks one.
The panel below counts source records, which is a different figure from the corpus totals in the bar at the foot of this page. An athlete is counted there once for every source that documents them, and an athlete no named source documents does not appear in it at all. The distance between the two numbers is our source coverage, and publishing it is the point of the panel.
