Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson believes a workout is only as good as the fuel inside your body. In an August 27 Instagram post, the WWE champ broke down the fast-digesting pre-workout shake he leans on for steady energy.
Johnson quickly rose to superstardom thanks to his built physique and wrestling prowess. He used those strengths to become a top-grossing Hollywood actor. Through the years, Johnson has captivated fans in a variety of films, from Black Adam to the Fast & Furious franchise.
The Rock recently made headlines for his downsized physique, which has become a common goal among top actors. Despite the streamlined look, the 54-year-old megastar hasn’t neglected his supplementation, especially around training.
The Rock Reveals His New Fast-Digesting Pre-Workout Shake
In the video, The Rock explained that he now blends his protein powder with jasmine rice for a fast-digesting shake:
“Not reinventing the wheel here, but started blending my rice with my protein powder for a fast digesting pre workout.”
He said that jasmine rice has helped set him up with energy before hard training sessions:
“Usually I do the old school Cream of Rice (orange box) which has always been the staple but this blended jasmine rice change up works great too. By the time I get to my first round of working sets I’m ready to go. Good to add to your rotation, give it a shot and lemme know,” Johnson said.
The Rock’s Intra-Workout Shake Recipe
The Rock also deconstructed the intra-workout shake that he sips on throughout workouts, which you can find below:
- 50g dextrin carbs
- 1/2 tsp of Himalayan salt
- EAAs
- 275–300 mg caffeine
- 10 grams creatine
There has been ongoing speculation as to why The Rock decided to downsize. Fans have suggested that he stopped taking performance-enhancing drugs. Meanwhile, Joe Rogan and Derek of More Plates More Dates shared a different theory.
“He probably had more preventative screenings before that role to know he could even subject himself to it without dying because it’s a pretty risky endeavor to go become the biggest you’ve ever been at that age.”
“To then downsize after, the theory is that he was literally about to die, essentially, so that’s why he lost so much weight now,” he added. “I think maybe he’s trying to take a health phase and come down in weight for a bit, and then he’ll probably crank it back up.”
The Rock isn’t holding back inside his Iron Paradise gym even with a leaner body. He plans to continue using his new pre-workout shake to keep training intensity high.
