Bodybuilding legend Dorian Yates is still thinking of innovative ways to enhance workouts. On May 29, 2025, he shared an easy-to-execute stretching routine for boosting leg training performance.
Dorian Yates won six Mr. Olympia titles in his prime. Interestingly, his biggest foe wasn’t the contenders onstage but persistent injuries, like his torn bicep and tricep. Despite those hardships, it never interfered with his title run. Yates remains in remarkable shape well into his retirement. While a total right hip replacement surgery sidelined him from the gym for a while, he committed to physiotherapy and made a fast recovery.
On top of boasting an impressive physique, Yates has paid close attention to his longevity, flexibility, and mobility in retirement. Bodybuilding can take a tremendous toll on one’s health, as many have noticed with former eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman, who struggles to walk without assistance. For that reason, Yates’ focus has shifted to wellness since stepping away from the stage, and it shows.

“Try this before your next leg workout. Forward lunge, body weight inside the leg here, and hold that for three [seconds]. Then straighten out the leg and put one hand on each side. Toes up, head down [for another three seconds],” explained Yates.
Even though his days of competing are behind him, Yates remains interested in the upper echelon of the Men’s Open division. The 2025 Pittsburgh Pro was one of the most stacked shows of the season, which led ‘The Shadow’ to discuss its controversial results. Ultimately, Derek Lunsford got his hand raised against Nick Walker following a tie-breaking round in the finals. However, Yates thought Walker rightfully won the show.
And he’s not the only prolific bodybuilder to say that. Recently, retired IFBB Pro standout Rich Gaspari also thought Walker should’ve gotten the nod in Pittsburgh, leaving fans mixed about who should have really claimed the victory.
Yates hasn’t forgotten the fitness principles that propelled him to the top of the sport. He believes this stretch, if executed properly, can help anyone eager to take their leg day training to the next level.
