212 Pro Bodybuilder Dwayne Quamina Passes Away at 40

The bodybuilding veteran returned from retirement last year and just finished sixth at the 2026 Atlanta Pro.

Dwayne Quamina, a prominent 212 bodybuilding standout, has sadly passed away at 40. News of his death shook up social media on August 16, with tributes pouring in from around the globe. 

As of this writing, Quamina’s cause of death has not been revealed. Over the years, Quamina carved out a massive footprint in the IFBB Pro League, known for rapidly transforming his physique before bodybuilding contests. He competed at an elite level, with his greatest performance coming at the 2018 Mr. Olympia (10th place). 

After retiring from the sport in 2020, he made a huge comeback years later. Quamina brought a new level of mass and conditioning to the 2025 Chicago Pro, securing a strong third-place finish. Before calling it a season, he took fourth at the Atlanta Pro.

In the final contest of his career, Quamina recently placed sixth at the 2026 Atlanta Pro, hosted by former eight-time Ms. Olympia Lenda Murray. With fans just witnessing him onstage, the community is still coming to terms with the sudden loss.

Dwayne Quamina Passes Away at 40, Bodybuilding Community Pays Tribute 

News of his passing spread across social media, with fans honoring his legacy in the sport:

Bodybuilders and fans took to the comment section to offer their condolences. Some were adamant that the sport pushes bodybuilders beyond their limits: 

“I Was literally getting my tan next to him and chatting last weekend in ATL… life is so precious. RIP ❤️” Regan Grimes said. 

“Sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. 🙏🏻❤️” 

“I love the art of bodybuilding…however the need to take your body to the extremes and put your body beyond natural limits has to stop. There has to be a healthier way to do this. We need to figure this out as a community.” 

“Im in shock right now . He retired due to a warning for his heart back in the day . In geardup board he was talking about that yrs ago and he came back last yr and decided to make a come back .”

The Pro bodybuilding industry is on edge given the number of deaths shaking up the sport. Iranian bodybuilding star Sushil Kumar was among the latest. He died at home despite attempts to revive him. His passing raised concern because he felt unwell following a workout.
