Although arm training wasn’t Jay Cutler‘s favorite obligation of the week, he never underestimated its importance on stage. In a recent YouTube video, Cutler walked fans through his latest arm routine for bigger biceps and triceps at the Fit Club in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“What we’re going to do like we always do is start this routine with triceps. I’m going to focus on three or four different movements, same for biceps. This is one of my workout days that I always say that I don’t love as much because it’s not as challenging but I’ve done all types of routines.”
In the world of bodybuilding, Jay Cutler stands among titans, having been the chosen contender to defeat eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman in 2001. Cutler racked up a total of four Sandow trophies and remains the only man in history to win back the prestigious title after he lost it to Dexter Jackson in 2008.
From transforming his physique to conversations about today’s Men’s Open contenders, Cutler hasn’t abandoned the bodybuilder lifestyle since hanging it up in 2013. At 50 years old, he remains injury-free and still trains seven days a week.

Jay Cutler Shares Bicep and Tricep Pump Training Session
Cutler says the moment he started dedicating one day a week to arms training, he saw results.
“I’ve done arm training with a bigger body part meaning shoulders, triceps, chest, and biceps, or vice-versa so it didn’t add an extra day to my workout routine but ever since I really started adding just one day for strictly arms, I’ve been actually making the most progress. That was later in my career.”

- Triceps Rope Press-Down
- Cable Triceps Press-Down
- Dip Machine
- Seated Machine Triceps Extension
- Seated Alternating Dumbbell Curl
- Preacher Curl Machine
- Barbell Curl
- Dumbbell Hammer Curl
Triceps Rope Press-Down
Cutler started with triceps rope press-downs to kick off the workout.
“Standard press down.”
Cable Triceps Press-Down
He added that cable triceps press-downs are probably the most common exercise people perform for bigger triceps.
“This is probably the most common exercise for triceps,” says Cutler.
Dip Machine
Cutler appreciates how he can lock out effectively on the dip machine and revealed his current weight of 230 pounds.
“I just don’t want to injure anything so my body weight is still around 230 but I like sticking to something like this, there’s a lot of different dip machines but I kind of like how this is positioned. I can really lock out and get that long head of the tricep.”
Seated Machine Triceps Extension
Cutler moved to seated machine triceps extensions which he described as old school.
“A little unique here, this machine always wasn’t here. Probably at my biggest, I wouldn’t have fit in it. So let’s see how this is. It’s kind of old school this one.”
Seated Alternating Dumbbell Curl
According to the bodybuilding legend, alternating dumbbell curls are his go-to exercise for biceps.
“Alternate dumbbell curls every time I do biceps, this is my exercise but sometimes I start on a machine but I’m going to start with free weights this time. I’ll do a warm-up set. I’ll probably start with 40s.”
“What I love about biceps after triceps, it’s an immediate pump I already have a pump from one set. So, I’ll more than likely not do any warm-up sets here in a sense just do a little feel set.”
Preacher Curl Machine
Even though he doesn’t enjoy training arms, Cutler admits the preacher curl machine gave him a solid pump.
“Preacher curl guys. Pretty standard we have a lot of options here now. I’m almost tempted to use that other one but this is feeling good. I feel a good pump. Biceps are still my least favorite to train believe it or not.”
Barbell Curl
Cutler threw in a few sets of barbell curls before moving to his last exercise.
Dumbbell Hammer Curl
Cutler topped off his session with dumbbell hammer curls and mentioned that he would come across the body during each rep.
“This is the last one, so we’re going to focus on because everyone always says what happened to my forearm size, listen, forearms get worked from a lot of different movements, whether it’s back training or shoulder side laterals. I’m going to do a hammer curl, going to come across the body a little bit.”
Aside from offering workout tips, Cutler has remained a prominent figure in the bodybuilding community, helping shape athletes who have followed in his footsteps. German Classic Physique star Urs Kalecinski recently joined Cutler for a triceps and shoulders workout.
Anytime he grabs a piece of equipment, fans can see Cutler’s passion for bodybuilding and exercise. Sporting longevity and health, he remains one of the most impressive ambassadors of the sport today.
