Yet another bodybuilding legend has lost their life recently. The great Jusup Wilkosz has died at the age of 71 years old.
Wilkosz had accomplished many things inside the world of bodybuilding. He competed from the mid 70’s the to the late 80’s, at the highest levels of the sport. In addition to being a two time winner of the Mr. Universe, the German also scored as high as 3rd place in the Olympia.
However, according to a Facebook message from the family of Jusup Wilkosz, he passed away on November 19th. Although the cause of death is unknown at this time, this is devastating news. He was a close friend of Arnold Schwarzenegger, who also lost another friend recently, in Franco Columbu.
This was their message:
Today, Barbara, jusup’s sister, and Arlette & Jochen, write you good friends of jusup. Together we support jusup’s Facebook page.
With great sadness, we have to inform you that jusup has gone from us today. We will always remember his empathic essence, his loving kind and his big heart.
Jusup lives in all our hearts.
Barbara with family
Arlette & Jochen”
The news of this tragedy is rocking the bodybuilding community hard. Despite the fact that Wilkosz officially retired from competition in 1994, his impact was felt throughout the sport. Moreover, it is thought that in spite of the success he did have, injury forced his retirement before he had reached his physical prime. Nevertheless, these were some of his best accomplishments:
- 1979 German Bodybuilding Championships – 1st
- 1979 World Amateur Championships. – 1st
- 1979 Mr. Universe – 1st
- 1980 IFBB Pro Mr. Universe – 1st
- 1981 Mr. Olympia – 6th
- 1982 Mr. Olympia – 10th
- 1983 Mr. Olympia – 6th
- 1983 Grand Prix Switzerland – 4th
- 1983 Grand Prix Sweden. – 3rd
- 1983 Grand Prix World – 3rd
