Kai Greene: ‘It’s Very Possible’ That I Compete Again

Kai Green Talks Future Plans For Competing

Kai Greene stays pretty busy, even though he has not been competing in bodybuilding. Nevertheless, he still says there is hope for him to compete again.

Greene is a man who is in demand. He has been taking time off of competing as a bodybuilder, instead becoming an actor. His most notable role to date was on the Netflix show Stranger Things. However, he was most recently involved in an Indian film, playing the lead antagonist. Subsequently, due to this role, he was unable to compete at 2019 Mr. Olympia.

So that begs the question, will Kai Greene ever compete again? Well speaking to Muscular Development, he has answered that inquiry. Although his response was a bit vague.

“It’s very possible, very possible. Stranger Things can happen.”

All joking aside, Greene explains that he has been working hard outside of the bodybuilding stage. He says that he has four more films lined up, that he is taking part in. Moreover, he is looking to open a new gym in his line of Dynamic Muscle Gyms. Therefore, he is unsure when he will be able to find the time to properly devote to competition.

However, this is not the only thing standing in Greene’s way.

In addition to his busy work schedule, there were some other factors leading to Greene’s time out. As the conversation progressed, the two discussed how much he has to sacrifice to be able to compete. As a result, he is beginning to recognize how tough the sport is.

“I think one of the things that a lot of times we don’t realize, when we are working in just the capacity of being the athlete, we put so much time, and effort, and commitment into developing that focus that allows you to excel as the athlete.

A lot of times we don’t realize how valuable that power is, how valuable that thing, that human resource that we bring to the table, when investing in the pursuit of being the dominate athlete that you work hard to realize in that event.

I think that it is very real, to understand that with everything that you do, if you do it at a certain level of elite capability, there is a sacrifice. I’ve heard people talk about a sacrifice when I was the athlete, when I saw myself as just an athlete. I thought then that the sacrifice was only ‘Well I have to stay on my diet.’

I thought then, that the only sacrifice was ‘Well I have to eat in this very restricted, and measured way.’ I realize now, on this side of it that no, that’s not the sacrifice. That’s not a sacrifice, that’s what you have to do in order to get to the level of achievement that you’re working for.

I now understand that the sacrifice that I thought I understood then, is the time and the use of your effort and focus. Your time and concentration. That is a very very valuable virtue.”

Therefore he is unsure if the sacrifice is worth it.

Greene says that the struggles of focusing so hard, only for the possibility of a trophy is tough. Therefore, he says he has to make sure that he can balance that, as well as other things. In order to compete at a high level, you need that focus, so he would be unavailable for any other tasks he has going on.

It is safe to say that most fans want to see Kai Greene make a return to bodybuilding. Especially considering the changes he has made to his diet, it would be interesting to see that on stage. Nonetheless, it is quite impressive that he is aware of the amount of sacrifice needed to do such a thing.
