Nick Walker Pushes Through Heavy Leg Workout 2 Weeks Before 2024 New York Pro

"I feel confident. I feel the way I should feel. Focusing on what is in front of me, not what's ahead of me at this point. That's been a lot better for me," Walker shares.

Men’s Open bodybuilding star Nick Walker is making sure his legs display a substantial level of freak factor when he takes the stage. In a recent YouTube video, Nick Walker annihilated his second-to-last leg day training session before competing at the nearing 2024 New York Pro on May 18.

Having claimed the Arnold Classic and New York Pro titles in 2021, fans immediately took notice of Nick Walker’s potential as an IFBB Pro. That same year he took fifth place at the Olympia, a promising sign of his future.

Taking the year to improve his aesthetics and shape, Walker’s time away from the stage paid off. He shocked the world with a jaw-dropping look at the 2022 Olympia en route to securing third place. He remained active after the triumph and took silver to Samson Dauda at the 2023 Arnold Classic.

Fans expected ‘The Mutant’ to steal the show at the 2023 Mr. Olympia, but he was forced to pull out of the event with an injured hamstring and calf just days before performing. Instead of banking on a special invite to the marquee event this year, Walker threw his name into the upcoming 2024 New York Pro.

  • Hamstring Curl Machine
  • Hack Squat Machine
  • Lying Hamstring Curl
  • Hip Adduction/Abduction Machine
  • Walking Bodyweight Lunges
  • Dumbbell Sumo Squat

Heading into the contest, Walker says his training hasn’t changed drastically, though he is lifting lighter and adjusting his rep ranges accordingly.

“Second to last leg day, so you know, I’m basically, I’m not the type of guy to train any lighter or any different going close to a show. Obviously, I’m not dumb. I’m going to keep it safe, but you train hard all the way. Just maybe train the rep scheme a little bit and don’t go as heavy but the intensity never fades,” says Walker.

In between sets of leg presses, Walker gave his thoughts on his current training day:

“Leg press is my bread and butter, so it’s been the majority of my workout, so to be honest, that was about four plates. I’m not going to so much go full range here like I did on the other two, I really just want to keep the tension on the quad, so I”m going to go down low but I kind of want to pump these. I want to control it but more pump reps.”

Before wrapping up the session, Walker gave a sneak peak into his mentality as he eyes a second New York Pro title.

“That is two weeks out leg day. So, that was the second to last one. Now, we only got one more to go. That was good. Really productive in my opinion. I’m still pushing heavy I would say.

I would say especially on the leg press the way that I’ve done, even when I got to Jersey from Vegas, it’s relatively the same. Some days I just go higher reps, some days I go a little lower in reps. Strength hasn’t changed there which is actually great. Energy is still decent. Towards the end, I fade out but that’s expected. Overall, I’d say I feel good.”

Overall, Walker is feeling confident with just a few leg day training sessions left before competing in New York.

“I feel confident. I feel the way I should feel. Focusing on what is in front of me, not what’s ahead of me at this point. That’s been a lot better for me.”

Despite having yet to compete in 2024, the enthusiasm surrounding Nick Walker’s potential has only built to new levels. Even bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler backed him to ‘possibly’ win the 2024 Mr. Olympia when he inevitably squares off against Hadi Choopan and the reigning titleholder Derek Lunsford.

Best of all, fans will get to see Walker shine on stage during a special guest posing appearance at the 2024 Pittsburgh Pro on May 10 this weekend. Judging by his latest leg day training session, Walker wants to make sure his lower body still boasts enough volume and freak factor to stand out among his rivals.
