Samir Bannout was around during what many think was the golden age of bodybuilding. He has now made it his personal mission to get bodybuilding to return to that style.

Bannout was the winner of the 1983 Mr. Olympia. He has always been a bit of an outspoken person, which is what has endeared fans over the years. He is unapologetically honest about how views of the bodybuilding world, and what he thinks is best practices.

This outspoken nature has been taken up a notch recently, as Bannout takes a look at today’s bodybuilding landscape. He has been very upfront about his thoughts that the current state of bodybuilding is not as good as it once was. His Instagram is full of posts about how traditional bodybuilding was much better, and how these so-called “gurus” and steroids have really hurt the sport.

This is what Samir Bannout has to say, speaking out against today’s bodybuilders:

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5_EkVAHMSc/?igshid=1k378f0ea31p4

“This was the last time I saw REAL BEAUTIFUL MUSCLES @ 1992 Mr. Olympia in Helsinki…Call me crazy if you want, but it’s the truth…
These men looked out of this world there…Pure quality n super waisted. The truth MUST be told!!! Keep it Old School guys!!”

https://www.instagram.com/p/B53JDLTHMGe/?igshid=zblc7kq4szqu

“If you wanna get ill, have a miserable future, live unhealthy lifestyle, then go ahead n follow those gurus, they’re rootless n lying up to the ears to you… that or they’re simply stupid…Look around you, check things out you’ll find out that I’m telling you the truth!”

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5vaQT3nAZ-/?igshid=6budii4r1i83

“These are the bodies that were built by prioritizing hardwork, diet, and recovery… Was there drugs in that equation? Yes, there was, but not even 2-3% of what’s being used today!!

Today, the new school of bodybuilding prioritizes drugs over EVERYTHING!! And for what, are they building better bodies? YOU TELL ME!! Are the physiques being built worth risking your life and health?”

https://www.instagram.com/p/B5qHDZ5HVDl/?igshid=ag2t8t0ui9yl

“Neither one of us was a scientist… we just trained hard n didn’t complicate things…Stop complicating thing for yourself by listening to those that’s never been there!!

BTW, the great Sergio Oliva R.I.P. was the biggest with the tiniest waist you can imagine, it was all done the old fashioned way… yes, it’s called the Oldschool way!! Get back to basics!!”

“Looking like a 900 pound gorilla is completely unnecessary, it’s about time your gurus ( those that create the problem) find a solution for this madness, it’s completely disgusting!! It’s very important to CHANGE ROUTE n put in end for the ugliness!!”

“Using GH at a young age, will not help you attain that quality old-school type of muscle … my advice is to spend the first few years relying on your natural potential before touching it, otherwise you will NEVER have that etched looking muscle à la old school!! BTW, I don’t need any scientific research on that… I insist!!”

Samir Bannout is not the only person who has been vocal lately, about old school bodybuilding being much better than things are today. Nevertheless, he is certainly one of the most noteworthy figures to be bringing this up. There are a lot more different approaches to bodybuilding nowadays, but some will always argue that the old school ways were best.
