Bodybuilder Shaun Clarida has an ambitious set of goals for this bodybuilding season. On February 3, 2025, he walked fans through his intense leg day training sessions four weeks before competing at the 2025 Arnold Classic.
Shaun Clarida is one of the most established athletes in the Men’s 212 Bodybuilding division. He earned 212 Olympia gold in 2020 and 2022, proving he knows how to bounce back from adversity even when the chips are down.
However, Clarida was unable to win back his title in 2023 and 2024, due to the masterful aesthetics and shape of Keone ‘The Prodigy’ Pearson. Despite these setbacks, Clarida hasn’t let anything get in the way of his improvements. In his last competition, he took third place behind Chris Bumstead and Martin Fitzwater and the 2024 EVLS Prague Pro.

Although the lineup is stacked, Clarida feels confident heading into the Arnold Classic, where he’ll face a total of three Mr. Olympia champions.
“Four weeks out till the Arnold. I’m not going to put out my prediction. If you guys are watching and follow, you know what my goal is. I don’t need to put it out there. I know what my goal is at the same time, I’m realistic in who is showing up but I know my best is going to be hard to beat, period,” shares Clarida.
He will be the only 212 competitor in the Open lineup, and is heading into the show with ‘nothing to lose, nothing to prove, and everything to gain.’
“I am going up against the Open guys once again. I’m the only 212 competitor in the lineup which is awesome.
But like I said, every show, every Open show I go into, I go in with the same mentality. Nothing to lose, nothing to prove, and everything to gain.”
He gave his thoughts on some of the frontrunners he’ll be competing against.
“You’ve got three Open Olympia champions, Brandon, Derek, and Samson, and you’ve gone one 212 champion in myself going into the show, plus a lineup of studs, Akim, Justin, William Bonac, big James Hollingshead. This Arnold Classic is stacked. Probably one of the most stacked that I’ve seen in a long time.”
This will be Clarida’s second time competing with the help and guidance of coach Stefan Kienzl.
“Any given day, anyone can win the show,” he adds. “We’re still pushing hard. If you guys know, I’m working with Boss Of Outlaw Stefan Kienzl now. He is my new coach. I’ve been working with him since the Olympia. We did Prague together.”
He explained that he’s dialed back on his training frequency to prioritize recovery.
“Today is leg day. Today is going to be primarily –it’s going to be everything. Quads, hamstrings, a little bit of glutes, a little bit of everything. I’ve changed my training up a little bit simply because I’ve noticed that recovery was kind of lacking a little bit. So I decided to cut my volume of training back down.”
Clarida has undergone some drastic changes in prep as of late. He parted ways with his ex-coach Matt Jansen, who helped guide him to a pair of Olympia titles. Instead, ‘The Giant Killer’ is navigating his preparations with ‘Boss of Outlaw’ Stefan Kienzl.
We have seen Clarida shock the world in the Open class before, which has led many to believe he could do it again in Columbus, Ohio, when the Arnold Classic returns from February 27 to March 2. Don’t miss it!
