Bodybuilder Wesley Vissers is readying his physique for the 2025 Arnold Sports Festival. Ahead of the event, he took to a recent YouTube video on February 9, 2025, to build a Classic look with a chest and triceps workout weeks from taking to the stage.
Wesley Vissers has become one of the most recognizable talents in the growing Classic Physique class. In 2024, he shocked the world after pulling off a dramatic upset against Ramon Queiroz at the Arnold Classic Ohio. He replicated his near-flawless package at the Arnold Classic UK show, picking up two consecutive victories impressively.
These performances had the world talking with some even positing that he had a shot at taking down the reigning Classic Physique Olympia Chris Bumstead. However, when the 2024 Mr. Olympia commenced, Vissers would miss the mark, finishing the show in eighth place. With redemption within his crosshairs, Vissers walked fans through the training blueprint he’s using to dominate at the 2025 Arnold Classic.

Slight Decline Press
Vissers stuck with an 8-12 rep scheme during slight decline presses.
“Staying in between the 8-12 rep-range. I have to use a gym pin on this so in total we added six kilos to the stack. To have a stack this heavy in general is pretty unique regardless,” he said. “We’re going to do the incline bench press right now.
Smith Machine Incline Press
Classic Physique demands a big and full upper chest, so Vissers utilized Smith machine incline presses to accomplish that.
“We’re going to do the incline bench press right now. The one that Arnold liked to do but on the free weight barbell because he had a spotter. I like to do it on the Smith machine for the upper chest.
For Classic Physique, you really want the upper chest to be big and full. That is one of the main differences between like Arnold, also Frank Zane, Serge Nubret, all those old-school guys. Today, you really have that x-frame, so broad shoulders, they try for a small waist it doesn’t always work and super tree trunk legs,” he shared.
Free Motion Cable Machine Seated Press Fly Hybrid Movement
He guided viewers through a cable movement that he described as a pressing and fly hybrid.
“It’s kind of like a fly at the end to really try to contract the chest but at the beginning portion of the range of motion, the stretch part it really is a press so you have the best of both worlds without messing with the front delts.”
Cuff One Arm Cable Lateral Raise
To achieve broad shoulders, Vissers utilized cuffed one-arm cable lateral raises.
“Another important thing about Classic Physique bodybuilding is broad shoulders. We all know the side lateral raise to build the shoulders but this one is the modern version to keep the tension exactly where you want it, at the bottom position where you get the stretch.”
One Arm Overhead Tricep Extension
Taxing the long head of the tricep to hang when performing shots like the back double biceps, Vissers proceeded with one-arm overhead tricep extensions.
“This is for the long head, which is the part on the [backside] of the triceps. It creates more of a depth more of a hang in the front double biceps pose and a lot of other Classic Physique poses.”
Cross Body Cable Tricep Extensions
During the next exercise, Vissers revealed plans to hit as many Arnold Schwarzenegger-inspired poses in his routine as he can.
“The Arnold Classic, the same says it already, it needs to be a Classic posing routine with Arnold-inspired poses I believe if you can do Arnold poses, like this one or this one, you have to include them into your routine, especially at the Arnold Classic.”
Leg Lift On An Ab Bench
He finished up the routine with ab work using leg lifts on a bench.
“The abs are really important in Classic Physique. I used to make the mistake of not training them in order to keep my waist small but actually if you train the abs you can keep more definition within the abdominal area.”
If Vissers hopes to be crowned the champion of the Arnold Classic 2025, he’ll have to get through the man who took second place behind Bumstead at the Olympia–Mike Sommerfeld. ‘Mike the Badass’ appears to be reaching his peak as an aspiring talent, taking tips from ‘Hypertrophy Coach’ Joe Bennett.
The table is set, the athletes are almost ready, and the Arnold Classic is expected to be unforgettable. Don’t miss Vissers attempt to defend his title in Columbus, Ohio from February 27 to March 2!
