Preparations are heating up for bodybuilder Wesley Vissers. In a YouTube video from June 15, he shared his latest hamstring-focused leg workout less than 16 weeks before the 2026 Mr. Olympia.

“My weight is 129 kilos. What is my weight limit? 116.1 kilos. That means at least 13 pure kilos of mass need to be removed.”

Vissers has picked up massive momentum this bodybuilding season. He brought arguably his all-time best physique to the 2026 Arnold Classic and dominated the show handily. A week later, he earned gold at the Detroit Pro against Ethan Gohari.

Vissers got the opportunity to face off against two-time Classic Physique Olympia runner-up Mike Sommerfeld. They took part in a close battle at the 2026 Arnold Classic UK, with Sommerfeld narrowly winning. Looking ahead, Vissers believes leg fullness and detail will be key to his claim over the sport’s most prestigious title.

  • Smith Machine Bulgarian Split Squat
  • Adductor machine
  • Hack squat
  • Standing leg curl

Lying Leg curl

While Vissers admits he’s heavier than in previous off-seasons, he said he’s not feeling the typical pains that come along with added weight.

“I think this has been the best off-season yet, even though in between the Arnold and the Olympia, that’s not so much time. But I’ve been so relaxed; I’m quite heavy, but I don’t feel the pains and niggles of stuff I did in previous off-seasons. I just feel like a heavier prep mode.”

Smith Machine Bulgarian Split Squat (Safety Attachments)

For safety, Vissers used attachments and performed Bulgarian split squats starting with his less developed left side.

“We’re not going to do regular squats, guys. We’re going to do the horrible Bulgarian split squats. This is for the glutes. We are going to stand below the bar, and boom, we are in position. You can do whatever you want. I, of course, start with the left side, because it’s the least developed side or weakest side.”

Adductor machine

He stressed that warming up is crucial to avoid muscle tears, even on exercises like the adductor machine.

“I warm up first because some people get tears in the adductors if they go too heavy or too quick. Regardless of if it is the first or last movement, always warm up.”

Hack squat

He favored the hack squat for helping work all of the muscles in his lower body:

“It works all of the leg muscles, including the glutes and the hamstrings, with most of the quads. So, of course, now, the knee sleeves are really doing their job. It feels amazing here. I go all the way up and I put that thing in the middle so my feet stay in the same position.”

Standing leg curl

He finished with the standing leg curl to give his hamstrings extra work.

“This is a movement I normally wouldn’t do as an extra, but hey, we have to work on the hamstrings. Today, is a little more of a hamstring-targeted workout, and the other workout is more of a glute-targeted workout, which just means more volume for each muscle group,” said Wesley Vissers.

Bodybuilding veterans have been outspoken about Vissers’ chances at Olympia. According to Dennis James, “The Dutch Oak” must display top-notch conditioning to take out Ramon Queiroz when they battle it out at the 2026 Mr. Olympia.

Vissers is prioritizing leg training for a balanced, championship-tier physique. He hopes that will be the difference-maker when he returns to the 2026 Mr. Olympia, set for September 24-27 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
