Joe Weider’s Olympia is the most prestigious bodybuilding show, serving as the final contest of every season. The Men’s Open division, popularly known as ‘Mr. Olympia’ is the main attraction of the competition.
Judges score the Men’s Open athletes on their overall muscle size, symmetry, balance, conditioning, and muscularity. Competitors must hit eight mandatory poses and perform a posing routine to showcase their physiques from all angles.
Nineteen athletes had originally qualified to compete at the 2024 Mr. Olympia, scheduled for Oct. 10-13 in Las Vegas, NV. However, the tally is now down to 17 following Nathan De Asha and Nick Walker’s withdrawal.
Reigning champion Derek Lunsford and former titleholder Hadi Choopan are the frontrunners to win the coveted Sandow trophy, but a field of elite contenders stands ready to challenge their quest.

Men’s Open Top Athletes To Watch
These are the bodybuilders expected to headline the 2024 Mr. Olympia:
Derek Lunsford & Hadi Choopan
The Derek Lunsford and Hadi Choopan rivalry and rematch is the biggest crowd-puller of the 2024 Olympia. Interestingly, both hail from the 212 division and are coached by 24-time Olympia-winning coach Hany Rambod.
Choopan won the Olympia title in 2022 by defeating the two-time champ Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay. Lunsford, on the other hand, won the 212 Olympia title in 2021, finished runner-up to Choopan in the Open division in 2022, and hoisted the Sandow trophy in 2023, making him the first multi-division Olympia champ in the history of the sport.
Choopan won the 2024 Arnold Classic (AC) US & UK, establishing himself as Lunsford’s top challenger at the 2024 Olympia.
Lunsford is known for his legendary ‘X’ frame, whereas Choopan overpowers his competition with his muscle mass and conditioning.
Lunsford worked hard on adding muscle tissue in the off-season and is prioritizing peak muscle conditioning in the shredding phase to keep Choopan in the rear-view mirror. “The Persian Wolf” will rely on his razor-sharp conditioning to reclaim the Olympia title.
Shall Choopan succeed, he will become the second Olympia champ after Jay Cutler to win back the Sandow trophy after losing it.
Samson Dauda
Samson Dauda surprised everyone by winning the 2023 AC US and then claiming the bronze medal at the 2023 Olympia. “The Nigerian Lion’s” biggest strengths are his size, muscle balance, and symmetry. His silver medal finish behind Choopan at the 2024 AC US & UK demonstrates his potential to upset Choopan and Lunsford if they leave the door open for him.
Andrew Jacked
Andrew Jacked turned pro in 2022 and entered the spotlight from his very first pro show — the 2022 Texas Pro, which he won. He placed eighth in his Olympia debut, fifth at the 2023 Olympia, and has big plans for the 60th edition of the show.
Jacked is working with acclaimed coached Chris “Physco” Lewis and Chris Aceto and is expected to make a big impact at the big O. With this impressive 6-foot-2 frame, exceptional muscle size, density, shape, balance, and symmetry, he has garnered significant attention from bodybuilding legends.
Many former Olympia champs, including Jay Cutler, believe Jacked is a future Mr. O champ, and it is only time before he realizes his full potential. It will be interesting to see if the 2024 Olympia is his breakout moment.

Brandon Curry
Brandon Curry hasn’t been able to replicate his best physique ever since winning the Sandow trophy in 2019. He finished second in 2020 and 2021 but then saw his placing slip, as he finished fourth in 2022 and 2023. To make things worse, Curry split with his long-time coach, Abdullah Alotaibi, during the 2024 Olympia prep.
While some bodybuilding pundits believe Curry’s best is behind him, he plans to end his competitive career by winning his second Olympia gold medal.
Hunter Labrada
Hunter Labrada’s performance has been rather inconsistent over the past few years, which he attributed to his gut issues. Now that his health is back on track, he is firing on all cylinders. Experts believe Labrada’s physique is prime for a top-three finish at the 2024 Olympia.
Dark Horses — Martin Fitzwater & Rafael Brandao
The Olympia brings out the best in every athlete. This year, several competitors are poised to deliver career-defining performances and challenge the established elite.
The Olympia debutant Martin Fitzwater and Brazilian superstar Rafael Brandao have high expectations for the 2024 Olympia and are aiming for a top-five finish. Fans are eagerly waiting to see the package they bring to the grandest bodybuilding stage and if they can deliver on their bold claims.
