The Fit Model category just got a lot more competitive. In a stunning reveal on social media (Jan. 22, 2026), Janet Layug announced her comeback in the brand new division.
In 2020, Janet Layug reached the pinnacle of her bodybuilding career. She claimed first place at the Ms. Bikini Olympia, cementing her legacy as an all-time great. The competition was loaded with Bikini royalty, including Jennifer Dorie, Angelica Teixeira, Lauralie Chapados, and Ashley Kaltwasser, all of whom, at one point, laid claim to Bikini Olympia gold.
Layug’s last pair of contests came back in 2022. She impressed en route to bronze at the Pittsburgh and New York Pro, courtesy of her glute detail, symmetry, and shape. With time to rest, she could come back looking even better.
Layug’s name recognition only grew beyond the stage. She founded Janet Layug’s Battle of the Bodies, an NPC national qualifier and IFBB Pro League Men’s Physique and Bikini contest.
Additionally, her grasp of bodybuilding is evident anytime she’s on the microphone. Layug has worked as a commentator for the prestigious Arnold Classic and Mr. Olympia competitions. Now, with a new goal fueling her training, fans are excited to see what lies ahead for the former champion.

Athletes and fans were blown away by her announcement and commented on her post:
“Welcome back sis. With the absolute most iconic picture,” said Lauralie Chapados.
“🔥🔥🔥” Jennifer Dorie wrote.
“Yes queen!!! Been waiting for this 😍💥👑” a fan commented.
“Yasssssss!!!! Love this! Let’s go Janet!! 🙌🙌🔥🔥👏👏” added another.
The IFBB Pro League and Vice President Tyler Manion announced the inception of the Fit Model division in 2025. According to the organization, the new category was created to broaden the scope of physiques athletes can present onstage. Moreover, Manion insisted that it will differ from Bikini because competitors can boast ‘less muscle and less development.’
Head judge Steve Weinberger also tackled whether the Fit Model division could water down Bikini. He explained that there are enough athletes and that it could help become a feeder category for Bikini over time.
The new Fit Model division will be on full display throughout the 2026 bodybuilding season. It will also be featured at the next Mr. Olympia event, scheduled for Sept. 24-27 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The bodybuilding community looks forward to seeing how Layug fares in her highly anticipated return!
