Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler‘s training methods resulted in four Mr. Olympia titles and three Arnold Classic trophies, making his insight invaluable to those in the community. In a recent YouTube video, Cutler revealed how much rest time is necessary following biceps training.

During his bodybuilding tenure, Jay Cutler rose to the top of the IFBB Pro League with a legendary physique. Boasting an unbelievable level of quad definition, he cemented his status as an all-time great. Cutler was not only responsible for toppling Ronnie Coleman in 2006 but established himself as the only man in the sport’s history to win back the prestigious Mr. Olympia title.

His career accolades still shine today, but Cutler never misses a chance to educate his fanbase. From training techniques to intense workouts, the Massachusetts native leaves no stone unturned in sharing the wisdom he has collected over the years.

Jay Cutler Reveals How Long You Should Rest Your Biceps Before Training Again

Although Jay Cutler would afford himself five to seven days of rest after training biceps, his general recommendation for others was to wait 72 hours for proper recovery.

“What is the adequate time to rest a body part? Specifically biceps. So if I was going to train my biceps I would give myself five to seven days rest in between. Research shows that you need 72 hours to when you train a muscle with volume, to recover that muscle group.”

He reminds his followers that the muscles only grow when you’re resting, so ‘be choosy’ about how you monitor your workout routines.

“So, I would say definitely 72 hours rest before you train it again. Not to say you can’t shock the body and train it several times.

If you want to do biceps three times a week, it’s a smaller muscle group but remember recovery is when the muscle is growing so be choosy about how you rest and how you monitor your workout routines and always focus on the growth,” says Cutler.

Aside from offering top-tier advice for perfecting your workout routine, Jay Cutler has kept a close eye on the elite contenders in the Men’s Open division. He recently named Derek Lunsford, Hadi Choopan, and Samson Dauda as the three ‘kings’ of the 2024 Mr. Olympia, slated to take place October 10-13 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Although we all want to train weaker body parts more often, Cutler warns us that muscle growth is dictated by adequate rest and recovery. He believes 72 hours is the magic number if you’re looking to grow your biceps after a tough workout.
