Paul Dillett still keeps his eye on the sport in retirement. On Dec. 17, 2025, he stated that Mr. Olympia today is watered down and discussed his physique goals at 60 years old.

Paul Dillett was the definition of a mass monster. Towering over competitors at 6’2″, he defeated top-tier talent in his prime, including former eight-time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman, Lee Priest, Chris Cormier, and Milos Sarcev. He also claimed impressive victories at talent-rich shows, like the 1999 Night of Champions (now recognized as the New York Pro).

In 2025, Derek Lunsford reclaimed the Open Bodybuilding title at the Mr. Olympia. Some found the results questionable, while others believe he was the rightful winner. However, according to Dillett, the Mr. Olympia as a whole has taken a backstep.

In the video, Dillett noted that the Mr. Olympia has become watered down through the years, pointing to the overabundance of divisions.

“Mr. Olympia today is Mr. Olympia physique, Mr. Olympia short, Mr. Olympia this, Mr. Olympia that,” said Dillett. “It’s so watered down. It’s watered down. I’m sorry guys. Love me or hate me. I don’t find any prestige in that.”

He added that during his era, shorter athletes, such as Priest, still found success despite a lack of height.

“Well, this guy is only 5’4,” and he’s only 220 pounds. I’m like you look at someone like Lee Priest, which is one of my boys, that’s like my best friend in bodybuilding, we still tight.

Lee held his own. I don’t care if he was going up against someone like myself at 6’3″ 275 pounds. When Lee walks out, you didn’t see Lee’s height, you just knew, man, this motherfucker is good.”

To stay in shape, Dillett said he sticks with workout circuits and emphasized that he’s not trying to walk around at 300 pounds.

“If I train, it’s more like a circuit. I’ll go here, this there, that there. I try to keep my body weight down. People are like oh my god, I saw Dillett, he’s so skinny. Dude, I’m 60 years old, bro. I ain’t trying to be 300-plus pounds.”

He stressed that organs struggle to function at heavier weights and wants to focus on his longevity.

“No, it’s not good for the organs. I see some of these dudes. I’m like, man, we the same age bro, you look like you’re as big as a house still. I don’t feel the need. I don’t have anything to prove. When people talk shit, I just am like listen, Google me bitch. That shit ain’t going nowhere,” said Paul Dillett.

“That’s smart [to stay slim], Levrone, the same thing,” he adds. “As you get older, you want to shed that weight.”

Before wrapping up the discussion, Dillett also revealed that Lou Ferrigno was his favorite bodybuilder:

“I’d buy all the magazines, looking at Lou and Arnold. Arnold wasn’t my favorite. Lou was my favorite. I loved Lou Ferrigno, Robby Robinson, these guys who I looked up to. I was like man, it’s so crazy but I never thought I could be that.”

Dillett hasn’t stopped watching the Men’s Open division progress in the IFBB Pro League. He believes that with five to seven pounds of added muscle, former 2024 Mr. Olympia champion  Samson Dauda could become untouchable.

Dillett is adamant that the prestige of the Mr. Olympia contest has dropped off. During his era, there were fewer bodybuilding divisions to compete in, which he argues led to more exciting shows.
