The ageless Tom Platz continues to redefine the sport despite stepping away from the stage decades ago. In his latest endeavor, Platz showed off his mind-boggling lower body, highlighting his impressive longevity at 69 years old.
Tom Platz was known for more than just his shredded physique, he made a name for himself with hardcore intense training sessions. Having pushed high-profile names like Lee Priest to the brink of a heart attack, Platz’s leg day routines have become famous in the sport of bodybuilding.
He held his own and challenged other bodybuilding stars such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Frank Zane, and Chris Dickerson.
But it wasn’t just his massive legs that separated him from his peers, Platz also possessed otherworldly strength. In a series of ‘squat off’ competitions, Platz found success against Fred Hatfield, where he set a record of 525 pounds for 23 reps. This record stood the test of time until former World’s Strongest Man and Arnold Strongman champion Mitchell Hooper broke it in 2023.
While Platz remains passionate about training and muscle-building in retirement, he has faced a few health setbacks. Of late, the Golden Era standout suffered from Gastroenteritis which left him with facial paralysis. However, the obstacle hasn’t prevented him from sculpting next-level quads

Bodybuilders were quick to comment, offering their two cents on Platz’s progress.
Although Tom Platz has long stepped away from the limelight, his influence on bodybuilding is undeniable. Aspiring influencer Sam Sulek, who continues to garner massive popularity online, plans to replicate the iconic photo of Platz and Lee Priest from years ago. Sulek believes with five more pounds of pure muscle on his arms, he might be able to do the picture justice.
Beyond that interaction, other bodybuilders and athletes have attempted to challenge their strength with Platz-style workouts. The Buff Dudes on YouTube were the latest to give it a shot, walking fans through their workout consisting of 43 sets and 705 reps.
“When you think of the most famous legs in bodybuilding history there’s most likely one name that comes to mind, and that is the man himself, ‘The Quadfather’ Tom Platz,” said Buff Dudes.
Despite enjoying his retirement, it’s clear that Tom Platz hasn’t let up on training his legs with intensity. He still boasts remarkable definition in his lower body, even as he ages, and his quads and hamstrings remain impressively conditioned.
As one of the greatest to ever don posing trunks, Tom Platz continues to inspire fans of the sport. He remains a pillar of motivation for bodybuilders in the IFBB Pro League who follow in his footsteps.
