Golden era bodybuilder Tom Platz led a legendary career with a one-of-a-kind physique still on display today. In a recent Instagram post, Platz shared an update of his massive and separated quads at 68 years old.
From his iconic speeches on going to failure to battling against the world’s best in the IFBB Pro League, Tom Platz remains one of the sport’s biggest stars. He has tested himself on stage against former seven-time Mr. Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger, Frank Zane, Chris Dickerson, and many other champions.
With unparalleled squatting strength, Platz achieved feats in bodybuilding and strength. In multiple squat-off competitions, Platz found success against Fred Hatfield, setting a record of 525 pounds for 23 reps, until it was broken in 2023 by Mitchell Hooper. In retirement, he remains disciplined with training. Even though he has dealt with Gastroenteritis which left him with facial paralysis, Platz never let up on his intense leg workouts.

This wasn’t Tom Platz’s first jaw-dropping quad update as of late. He impressed fans with not only the size but the overall condition of his legs before with an impressive photo. He credits his longevity to healthy foods and the smart decisions he made as an aspiring bodybuilder.
Platz has spoken publicly about his use of performance-enhancing drugs to achieve his physique. He joined six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates and listed exactly which compounds he experimented with in preparation for the annual Mr. Olympia competitions. While he admits his efforts were ‘very unsophisticated,’ it’s clear Platz always valued his health and wellness.
In light of his rigorous workout routines, fans and influencers from around the world are always replicating Platz’s training strategies. Recently, a pair of bodybuilders took on a leg workout challenge comprised of 43 sets and 705 reps, which was based on Platz’s most common leg day exercise selections.
“When you think of the most famous legs in bodybuilding history there’s most likely one name that comes to mind, and that is the man himself, ‘The Quadfather’ Tom Platz,” said Hudson White and Brandon White.
Having always counted on tortuous training and nutrition instead of supplements, Tom Platz continues to test himself off the stage. At 68 years old, he still sports awe-inspiring mass and definition.
