Renowned strongman Hafthor Bjornsson is on a mission to increase his strength to what it was a few years ago. In an Instagram post, Bjornsson smashed a huge 420-kg (925.95-Lb) raw squat with ease.

World’s Strongest Man (2018) Hafthor Bjornsson‘s strength has garnered headlines for years. He dominated the strongman game for the majority of his 10-year-long career, winning over 30 international trophies and setting several World Records in the process. Given the humongous stature of Bjornsson, he was tapped to star as ‘The Mountain’ in the fantasy drama television series Game of Thrones.

As a competitor, Bjornsson went up against a plethora of talent. He took part in a fierce rivalry with fellow strongman legend Eddie Hall after surpassing his Deadlift World Record with a massive 501-kg (1,104.5-lb) lift. While they both took to the sidelines, their dispute was unsettled.

Bjornsson and Hall battled it out in a boxing match billed as ‘The Heaviest Boxing Match in History.’ They underwent a physique transformation to get ready for the contest. Eventually, Bjornsson took home the win by unanimous decision.

Following the bout, Bjornsson set his sights on former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury. He issued a callout of ‘The Gypsy King’ and exchanged in an online feud last July. However, no concrete developments happened as the idea fizzled out. Bjornsson even teased a move to bodybuilding by attending a posing seminar a month later.

‘Thor’ confirmed his plans to move away from boxing in favor of a return to strength competitions. He set the bar high by targeting to break the Weight Over Bar record at the 2022 Rogue Invitational. In the end, Bjornsson emerged victorious in his comeback and set the new World Record at 20 feet 3 inches.

The 34-year-old Icelandic continued to build on the momentum with more insane lifts. He breezed through a 793.6-lb (360-kg) deadlift with ease for two reps just days away from a powerlifting contest. Then, he showed off his unreal upper body strength by crushing 429.9-lb (195-kg) paused bench press. He followed that up with another heavy 380-kg (837.8-lb) raw deadlift.

His hard work paid off as he scored gold in his powerlifting comeback. He totaled 970-kg (2,138.5-lb) in the (+140Kg) category. And judging by his latest squat, the former strongman has no intentions of slowing down.

In a recent Instagram post, Hafthor Bjornsson crushed a huge 420-kg (925.95-lb) squat. He did not appear to struggle as he lifted the weight with ease and proper technique.

“420kg squat has never felt easier,” he wrote. “Strength is coming back faster than I anticipated.”

Hafthor Bjornsson was honored with an entry into the International Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023 two months ago. He has high ambitions ahead and is looking to break the All-Time World Record in powerlifting before making a comeback to Strongman next year. He expressed a desire to compete at the Arnold Strongman and Rogue Invitational.

Bjornsson engaged in a friendly battle with Dan Bell at the 2023 Arnold Sports Festival last month. The pair left fans stunned with a massive 395-kg (870.8-lb) deadlift, further illustrating that Thor’s strength hasn’t gone anywhere.

‘Thor’ smoked an 837.7-lb (380-kg) squat last week. He is working towards lifting over 970-lb (440-kg) in the future. He is currently in preparations for attempting to lift a 970-lb (440-kg) squat in under two weeks on April 15. He will live stream it on Twitch and YouTube. Based on his progress, it appears Bjornsson is continually growing and it’s likely only a matter of time before he achieves his goal.
