Bodybuilding legend Jay Cutler isn’t letting injuries stop him from training at 51. On April 23, 2025, he shared his fasted back workout days after tearing his bicep on 40-pound curls.

Four-time Mr. Olympia Jay Cutler still makes workouts his top priority since stepping away from the stage. He took on a ‘Fit-for-50’ physique transformation for his last birthday and has kept that momentum alive. Cutler routinely showcases his training sessions, all while keeping a close eye on the latest shake-ups in the Men’s Open class.

“I’m doing back today. The problem is the bicep that I tore. Crazy, I was doing curls the other day,” he shared. “I actually strained my biceps doing literally 40-pound curls the other day.

A little lighter today, going through the motions. This goes to show for all you guys out there that face a little injury sometimes, you can just go through the motions.”

He said he’ll focus on recovery with some tissue work soon, warning lifters that it’s important to ‘keep everything pliable.’

“It pulls a little bit here, so I have some tissue work tomorrow with that. So, I’ll get that worked out, so anyone that always has to deal with those injuries, just make sure you get that work done and keep everything pliable.”

He focused on working the lat fibers with incline j-bell rows, turning the dumbbells, and using the bench for support.

“For you guys that either have back pain or something like this, a tweaked bicep or whatever else, I’m going to do an incline row, but I’m going to use the J-bells. I’m going to pull through the lats but I’m going to use the support,” he shared.

Cutler is always chasing the pump and recently linked up with his successor, former seven-time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath. They joined hands for their first chest and triceps workout in over 10 years, giving fans treasured tips for improving their form and exercise execution.

Without a physique challenge or contest on his radar, Cutler is still devoted to maintaining a Pro-caliber look. Despite a bicep injury, he relied on his old-school grit and pushed the pace even in a fasted state.
